Saif Ali Khan is an inspiration for all the fathers out there. He is a doting dad, who ensures to spend as much time as possible with his kids despite his busy schedule. Saif is often spotted spending quality time with his kids, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan, along with Sara and Ibrahim. However, his mother and veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore, now confessed that she didn't give her son enough time and was an absent mother. Sharmila also has two daughters, Saba Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan.
Sharmila Tagore attended a recent Mother’s Day event for YFLO and opened up about becoming a mother for the first time. She revealed that she was absent for the first six years after giving birth to her son, Saif Ali Khan and recalled how she made a few mistakes. The 79-year-old actress shared that though she used to go to the parent-teacher meetings and attended Saif's plays, she was an absent mother. Elaborating the same, she mentioned:

“When I had Saif, I was very busy. I was working two shifts a day and for the first six years of his life, I was really absent. I did whatever I had to do/I went for the parent teachers meeting, attended his plays but I don’t think I was a full-time mom. My husband was there, but I wasn’t. Then when I became a mother, I became an overzealous mother. I wanted to feed him, bathe him and everything. That was the other side of the pendulum. I made a few mistakes, honestly.”

Further, in the conversation, Sharmila Tagore mentioned that despite her absence, Saif Ali Khan has grown up pretty okay. She also praised her husband, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and their extended family for their support. The veteran actress shared that even one of Saif's school teachers, who lived across their apartment, was always there for him. She concluded:
“But he has grown up pretty ok. My husband was there, and we had the support of the extended family and my friends. One of his school teachers would live across the apartment in Mumbai. She and her husband really looked after Saif as well… For the girls I was there.”
Meanwhile, in a candid conversation with Curly Tales, Soha Ali Khan opened up about her relationship with her brother, Saif Ali Khan. She shared that while Saif was a bit of a rebel in his growing years, she, being the younger one, was a bit more obedient. The loving sister mentioned that Saif did everything he could do to scandalise their parents and broke every rule. Soha said:
“My brother was a rebel, he did everything he could do to scandalise our parents. He broke every rule in the book, they had to invent a new rulebook. There’s nine years between us. My mother told me when I bunked an economics class, ‘If this is the start of some kind of rebellion, then forget about it, because we’ve seen it all’. So, I just gave up all that. It was impossible to walk in his shoes.”
