'Shamshera' Movie Review: Ranbir Kapoor's Comeback After 4 Years, Here's How Audience Is Reacting

Bollywood's one of the most charming and versatile actors, Ranbir Kapoor, made his comeback to the big screens with an action drama period movie, Shamshera. His massive fanbase couldn't wait to watch their favourite actor on the screens dancing, delivering dialogues and giving complete power-packed action sequences. Karan Malhotra's directorial and Aditya Chopra's produced film also features Sanjay Dutt, Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Saurabh Shukla and others.

It's the first time when Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt can be seen sharing the screen together, which eventually hyped the movie and made their fans even more excited about the film. The plot of the movie is set in the backdrop of the 1800s, which shows a dacoit tribe trying and fighting to get free from the clasp of the British government. Ranbir Kapoor, in dual role starrer, this big-budgeted movie is now released for the audience, and it's getting a mixed review from them.

The movie revolves around Shamshera (Ranbir Kapoor), the leader of the Khameran tribe, who fights for their freedom from the British government's rule. Suddha Singh (Sanjay Dutt) is given the responsibility by the government to destroy the tribe. Cheating on them, Suddha Singh demolishes the tribe, but Shamshera's pregnant wife gives birth to Balli (Ranbir Kapoor), who returns after 25 years as a carefree boy but later takes revenge on his family and tribe.

Shamshera from critics' views

Even though the excitement to return to movie theatres and enjoy the theatrical experience of the film featuring Ranbir Kapoor was pretty high, the reviews from the critics depict the lack of the magic it promised. The film has two sections, a father-son emotional connection (which was missing as per the film critics) and a rebel fighting for freedom against the British government (which was not clear at all). Twitter is buzzing with reviews from movie critics. Madhavan Narayan wrote, '"If there is anything that #Shamshera proves, it is this: Bollywood should either keep off #History altogether or devise a statutory 'F' classification to denote falsification when it deals with matters it does not understand."-@saibalchatter. #HistoryTwitter.'

While another movie reviewer penned, "#Shamshera is a tale of two worlds: technically outstanding: cinematography, action and music (Mithoon deserves praise). It lacks however in emotional depth despite great performances by #RanbirKapoor & #SanjayDutt A good attempt but not all there. Shamshera > Bali."

Audiences' reaction to Shamshera

twitter

Even though the audiences are loving Ranbir Kapoor's screen presence, the movie is rather getting mixed reactions from them as well. While a few are praising for the grandeur and the cinematography of the film, a few pointed at the same old storytelling and bad dialogue writing and plot. One of the users wrote, "Shamshera is a very visually stunning film... Ranbir as both Shamshera & Balli has delivered an amazing performance his voice modulation tho and specially in those action sequences The scene which really stood out for me was the pre interval and interval block scene #Shamshera." Another tweet can be read as, "First half ended on a very high note. A lot is packed in the story of #Shamshera. Feels like watching a South Indian film with many clap-worthy dialogues & action. It also felt a bit lengthy. But was nevertheless engaging. #ShamsheraReview."

Viewers are also putting their reviews on Google, and one of them wrote, "Shamshera is such a wonderful movie. Be it the acting or the costumes, everything has been nailed to the T. I've always loved Ranbir Kapoor but after seeing his double role as Balli and Shamshera, I've started to love him even more. What an actor, seriously! His physique is so well maintained and I mean, just wow. The action sequences have been curated so beautifully, you feel like you're a part of Kaza. Must watch for everyone."

Karan Malhotra has extensively worked with Mithoon on the background score of the film, and the audience is really enjoying the music and songs of the movie. Rs. 150 crore movie has been backed by YRF production house, and maybe in respect to that, people were expecting much more from the film.
