Shahid Kapoor is known for his exceptional acting skills in Bollywood and earned a name for himself by working hard for 21 years in the industry. But before this success in his career, the actor had a difficult childhood as his parents, veteran actor, Pankaj Kapoor and mother, Neliima Azeem, separated when he was a kid. Despite meeting his father occasionally, in a recent interview, Shahid revealed that he felt a void in his life and was bullied by other kids for it.
Shahid Kapoor's parents separated when he was just three years old, and he used to live with his mother in Delhi while his father, who worked in Mumbai, visited him once a year. But, his father's absence in his daily life affected the actor in more than one way. He shared that as a child, other kids used to make him feel bad about his father's absence. Shahid said:
"Kids are very mean. So, at that time, when you don't have a parent, they make you feel bad about it, that this is not normal. And other kids made me feel that. Those kids don't know what they are doing; they are just being stupid, but you end up feeling like my life is over."
Shahid highlighted that the male presence in his life was less than normal due to his parents' separation. He compared the role of parents in a child's life to two feet and explained that a child cannot find balance in his life when one parent isn't there. So, he firmly believes that the role of both parents is vital in the life of a kid. However, Shahid mentioned that his nanaji still tried to fulfill his father's absence and had the most impact on his life.
Shahid Kapoor and his wife, Mira Rajput, welcomed a daughter Misha in 2016 and a son, Zain, in 2018. After becoming a parent, Shahid has witnessed how his kids feel when he has gone somewhere to shoot or for other work for a few days. It gives him an understanding of how he used to feel as a child, and he gets clarity about that part of his childhood. The Udta Punjab actor also mentioned that his son feels more secure with his presence and stated:
"When I am not around, I feel he doesn't feel as secure, even for my daughter, but I would say more for my son. Because I think that male energy connect between father and son."
After working as a background dancer in films like Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Taal, Shahid Kapoor debuted with Ishq Vishq in 2003. Since then, he starred in popular films like Kabir Singh, Udta Punjab, R…Rajkumar, Haider, Jab We Met, Vivah and more. The actor will be next seen in Deva, co-starring Pooja Hegde and has Arjun Ustara in the pipeline.
