The wait is finally over for cricket fans! The much-anticipated IPL 2025 season kicked off in grand style at Kolkata’s iconic Eden Gardens stadium. As excitement builds for the opening clash between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, the star-studded opening ceremony stole the spotlight. Bollywood superstar, Shah Rukh Khan, along with other performers, turned the evening into a full-on blockbuster. But the moment that truly set the crowd on fire was when Virat Kohli and Rinku Singh joined SRK on stage, grooving to his hit songs and creating an unforgettable spectacle!

On March 22, 2025, during the grand opening of IPL 2025, King Khan got the Eden Gardens crowd chanting “Kohli! Kohli!” before having a fun exchange with Virat on stage. The crowd went wild as Virat and SRK recreated the iconic hook step of Jhoome Jo Pathaan, sending fans into a frenzy. Dressed in a dapper leather jacket over a blue shirt, Shah Rukh Khan proved yet again why he is the ultimate showman. Virat also matched his energy, leaving fans screaming in excitement to see the two icons sharing the moment.

Rinku Singh joins in to dance at SRK’s hit from Dunki

That was not all. Rinku Singh, the superstar player of Kolkata Knight Riders, was next to set the stage on fire. The star player, who often breaks into dance on the field after his team’s win, joined hands with King Khan to set the stage on fire with SRK’s hit song, Lutt Putt Gaya from Dunki. Shah Rukh couldn’t help but praise Rinku and jokingly remarked:

“Whenever KKR wins, Rinku dances to my songs so here’s a taste of what’s to come this season!”

Virat Kohli sparks frenzy with his ‘gold generation’ statement

Another highlight was when SRK indulged in a fun exchange with Kohli on the stage, just after his big shoutout to the cricketer.  When SRK asked if the ‘bold generation’ of cricketers would take over from the ‘gold generation’, Kohli’s reply had everyone cheering. Virat said:

“The bold generation is coming strong, but the old generation is still here — ready to make an impact, ready to play a game, and create more memories for all these lovely fans for years to come.”

While the whole Eden Gardens erupted in thunderous cheers at Shah Rukh Khan’s banter with the Virat and Rinku, the opening ceremony was not limited to dance moves. With artists like Shreya Ghoshal and Karan Aujla gracing the stage, along with Disha Patani’s high-energy performance, it was definitely an evening that cricket fans will remember for a while. 

Despite the chances of rain on the radar, Eden Gardens only has excitement in the air. With the grand opening, the stage is officially set for an IPL 2025 season, starting with Kolkata Knight Riders vs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru!
