While Shah Rukh Khan is a Muslim, Gauri Chibber was a Punjabi, but their union never affected the love they have for each other. They are what everyone calls ‘true love’. Shah Rukh and Gauri had met each other at a party in Delhi in 1988, where the Cupid had struck them. Shah Rukh had fallen madly in love with Gauri that he had even followed her to Mumbai, even without knowing her whereabouts. The shiddat in SRK’s love had made him meet Gauri on the seashore of Mumbai while looking for her.
Leaving Delhi, Shah Rukh Khan had shifted to Mumbai and had tied the knot with Gauri Chibber on October 25, 1991. Professionally and personally, Shah Rukh has proved himself to be the ‘King of Romance’. From his struggling years in the initial phase of their relationship to ruling the world together, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan have come a long way.

During Tehelka’s Think 2012 event, Shah Rukh Khan had revealed that he had once confronted a journalist for publishing a rumour of his affair with a co-star. During that time he was filming for Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa in 1993, two years after his wedding with Gauri Khan. He had revealed that Gauri was concerned if she had made a mistake marrying a film star and if she will have to worry about his affairs with female co-stars.
Shah Rukh Khan had recalled showing up at the journalist’s door and behaving badly with him. He had taken the sword given to him by his father-in-law to protect Gauri. He had said, “I behaved very badly. I was jailed. My father-in-law had given me a sword, as they do in Punjabi weddings. I carried that sword to that journalist's house. My father-in-law, who is an army officer, said, ‘Son, you have to protect my daughter’. Nobody was saying anything to his daughter but I thought this is a good weapon, sanctioned by the Indian Army.”

Shah Rukh Khan had stabbed the journalist in his legs with the ‘sword’ which was a ‘kukri, and came back after the incident on the sets of Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. A day later, a few cops had shown up on the sets and had taken him to the police station. He was allowed to make just one call and he had called the journalist to threaten him further and had said, “Saale ab toh jail bhi chala gaya hu. Ab toh nikal ke aauga aur tereko kaat ke jaauga.” Later, Nana Patekar had got him out of jail.
A few days back, scrolling through social media, we had got hold of an unseen picture of Shah Rukh and Gauri from their post-wedding function. In the picture, Gauri had flaunted her newbie bride’s look in a red-coloured saree, which was accentuated with a mangalsutra and chooda. Shah Rukh had looked suave in a black tuxedo.
Of all the on-screen roles that Shah Rukh has performed in his career, we love his off-screen role with Gauri the most!
