India has taken a step forward in the entertainment industry with the inauguration of the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai on May 1, 2025. The summit kicked off in style at the prestigious Jio World Convention Centre and will span for four days, featuring some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry from around the world. The summit will feature discussions on a range of topics, and on day one, our beloved actor, Shah Rukh Khan, took the stage to share his opinion on one of the most debated topics in the entertainment industry.
Shah Rukh Khan welcomed the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and other high-profile guests to the event. These included Deputy Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde, Maharashtra Governor, C.P. Radhakrishnan, and Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, among others, to the first WAVES on May 1, 2025. However, that was not all; the dashing actor also spoke about some of the heated discussions in the entertainment industry and candidly shared his views on them.
Among such discussions was the most debated subject in Bollywood, the 'insider vs outsider' distinction. The actor took the stage for a session titled 'The Journey: From Outsider to Ruler'. The discussion also featured his Chennai Express co-star, Deepika Padukone, and was moderated by filmmaker, Karan Johar. SRK, who is often hailed as one of Bollywood's biggest stars despite having no film background, discussed what truly matters when trying to build a career in any field. He was quoted as saying:
"I want to clarify something: terms like hunger, ambition, and hard work often get romanticised. People say, 'Main bahut bhookha tha, bahut mehnat ki' but these are lofty words."
In the same conversation, he expressed that he has a problem with the distinction between outsiders and insiders. He stated that it was not important as where one comes from was irrelevant. Shah Rukh Khan also addressed what, in fact, was important and added that how one held their ground in the world they aspired to enter was far more important. The actor concluded that the industry had embraced him with open arms, leading him to believe that it was his world and his industry. He was quoted as saying:
"I also have a problem with the distinction between insider and outsider. I think they're just not important. It's not important where you come from. What truly matters is how you hold your ground in the world you aspire to enter, be it business, politics, or acting."
The Indian cinema also came together at the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit, with Aamir Khan, Deepika Padukone, Mira Rajput, Akshay Kumar, Hema Malini, Anil Kapoor, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and others in attendance. The filmmakers were not far behind in making sure they attended the grand event. Farhan Akhtar, Karan Johar, and Oscar-winner, Guneet Monga also made their presence felt. Alia Bhatt attended the event with her husband and actor, Ranbir Kapoor.
