I have loved sarees all my life and always wanted to don one on my wedding day. My marriage date has been recently finalised, and I have already started shopping for it. But, the endless variety of sarees available in the market has left me confused. I am simply clueless as to which one should I go for. I have a fair complexion, and want a colour that enhances my skin tone. Also, the saree should not be too heavy. My relatives have asked me to choose a Benarasi silk saree, but I think I would not be able to carry that much weight. Can you suggest me a few saree options that I can wear on my D-day?
Well, it is really great that you have chosen to wear a saree on your wedding day. This nine yard fabric has always been considered auspicious during the wedding ceremonies. Dresses like lehenga, ghagra choli and others came in much later.

Coming to your question, sarees festooned with rich motifs and embroidery work are in vogue. You can choose from a variety of bridal silk sarees, like art silk and pure silk. Pure silk sarees also come with local manipulations, like Kanjivaram silk sarees, Mysore silk sarees and Benarasi silk sarees. Even an elaborate zardozi work on silk will make your bridal saree look imperial, affluent and royal. So before you completely rule it out for its heaviness, think about it again. They are not that heavy after all.
Alternatively, you can go for crepe sarees. Because of their shiny fabric, these sarees are on the bridal wear list. Their flowy look will also make you look slim. And, since you want your saree to be light, a crepe saree will be a perfect choice for you.
As for the colours that will suit your complexion, peach and pink undertones are a strict no-no. Women with fairer skin should avoid such colours, as they make them look pale. Bright colours like hot pink, red, green and blue will add a fresh and radiant look to your skin tone. So, we hope that you have benefitted well from our advice.
