Savannah Guthrie recalled her rocky romance with musician ex-boyfriend

In a January 2024 interview with HELLO!, Savannah Guthrie shared a rare anecdote about a rocky relationship with a musician ex-boyfriend from her younger years. During the conversation with singer, Rachel Platten, Savannah recalled how disrespected she felt when she dated him. She remembered spending her time hauling heavy music equipment for her boyfriend's band. Savannah Guthrie reflected on the experience as part of her coming-of-age journey, noting the contrast between those difficult, early relationship dynamics and her married life.

The 54-year-old admitted that, looking back on her 20s, when she was dating her musician ex, she felt she was losing her sense of self. Savannah thought to herself that she should have valued her self-respect more than her care for her ex. She even humorously took a jibe at the former partner, saying that his band wasn't even good enough for her to be so smitten with him. Even though Savannah candidly recounted the past romance, she did not name the ex, valuing his privacy. Her exact words were:

"I once dated a guy in a band, and he would make me carry the amp...' why didn't I respect myself more in my 20s' is the question I ask myself...I mean honestly, I wasn't even in the band. They weren't even that good."

After the failed relationship, Savannah Guthrie had a failed marriage with Mark Orchard

Savannah Guthrie has been married twice. Her first marriage ended in a painful divorce that she kept private for many years, while her second marriage has lasted over a decade. Savannah's first husband was Mark Orchard, a British journalist who worked for the BBC and Al Jazeera. The two met in 2005 while they were both covering the Michael Jackson child molestation trial. Savannah's second and current husband, Michael, is a communications consultant and former Democratic political aide who worked in the Clinton-Gore White House. Savannah and Michael Feldman met in October 2008 at his 40th birthday party while Savannah was still separated from Mark. They began dating in late 2009 after her divorce was finalised. Savannah and Michael got engaged in 2013, four years into their relationship.

The ring ceremony was famously dramatic because Savannah actually tried to break up with her fiancé on the day he intended to propose, frustrated by their long courtship. He asked her hand in marriage later that evening, and she accepted immediately. The couple got married on March 15, 2014, in an intimate ceremony in Tucson, Arizona. Savannah and Michael have two children, a daughter, Vale Guthrie Feldman and a son, Charles 'Charley' Max Guthrie Feldman. Notably, the children bear both parents' surnames, reflecting the couple's modern mindset.

Vale was born on August 13, 2014 and is currently 11 years old, as of February 2026. She has expressed an interest in becoming an actress and also enjoys tennis, gymnastics, and creating art. The younger child and only son of Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman, Charley was born on December 8, 2016, and is currently 9 years old, as of February 2026. Savannah conceived him through IVF at the age of 44 after several attempts.
