Mahela Jayawardene, the head coach of the franchise, clarified that Arjun Tendulkar’s selection was purely based on his skills and said that since junior Tendulkar is focused on his career, he’s going to evolve with the passage of time. Mahela was quoted as saying by crictracker.com, “We’ve looked at it purely on a skill basis. I mean, there is going to be a big tag on his head because of Sachin. But, luckily, he’s a bowler, not a batsman. So, I think Sachin will be very proud if he could bowl like Arjun. I think it’s going to be a learning process for Arjun. He just started playing for Mumbai, and now the franchise. He will learn the ropes; he will evolve. He’s still young. A very focused young man. We have to give him time and hopefully not put a lot of pressure on him either. Just let him evolve and work his way up, and that’s what we’re there to help him to do.” Akash Ambani also spoke about Arjun's selection in the team. In a throwback interview with PTI, Sachin Tendulkar had spoken about how he wants his son, Arjun Tendulkar to find "reasons to wake up every morning and chase his dreams" irrespective of the circumstances. Sachin had said, "In sports, nothing is guaranteed so whatever opportunities you are provided, you need to go out there and give your best and make the most of it. This is one platform that I feel people will be following you, your performances and if you are doing well, you will be on top of the world. As long as he continues to be passionate about cricket and in love with the game, that's what matters to me. There are going to be highs and lows and he should find reasons to wake up in the morning and chase his dreams. His dream is to play cricket and do something special."
Sachin Tendulkar is the son of famous Marathi poet and professor, Ramesh Tendulkar and his impact on the legendary batsman's thought process was significantly huge. Revealing what his father had told him once that he will pass on to Arjun too, Sachin had recalled, "My father once told me: 'You know as long as you don't find shortcuts and prepare yourself before any match, then results will follow'. I will ask him (Arjun) to do that. Don't worry about anything else. Just go out there and do what you are good at. If he is a good team man and good human being above all, that will be much more important to me."
