Sanjay Khan Once Said Zeenat Aman's Eye Injury Was 'Hereditary Squint', Claimed He Never Slapped Her

Zeenat Aman had Zeenat Aman had a clamorous relationship with Sanjay Khan. The actress married Sanjay, who was already married in 1978. However, their marital bliss was short-lived, as the duo parted ways a year later in 1979. 

Sanjay Khan revealed he never hit Zeenat Aman

Zeenat Aman and Sanjay Khan's marriage was nullified on the grounds of Zeenat facing physical and domestic abuse from Sanjay. It was reported that during an argument, Sanjay lost his temper and slapped Zeenat so hard that he injured her left eye. While there are various versions of the events, Sanjay once shared a completely different story.

Sanjay Khan appeared on a radio show in 2019. When he was asked about the incident by the host, Hrishikesh Kannan. Discussing why he never addressed the incident in his book, The Best Mistakes Of My Life, the actor revealed that there is nothing much to speak about as whatever he felt needed to be written has been. He added that whatever he was willing to share about Zeenat was already in the book, and he had nothing else to add to it. Sanjay further stated:

"After the release of Abdullah, I got offers from many producers to work in some big films, which I didn’t take. I was in self-exile for four years. I was so pained and horrified by the one-sidedness of the entire story. Nobody even asked me what happened. This was a kind of well-planned PR attack against me. It came like a blitzkrieg, and mentally, I was very disturbed. The facts were totally and radically opposite. I was even accused of being responsible for her losing her eye. This is not right."

Sanjay Khan reveals Zeenat Aman's squint was hereditary 

In the same conversation, Sanjay Khan revealed that Zeenat's eyes were perfectly fine from 1981 to 1984. However, later in life, she began to squit, which was exactly like her mother. He stated that the condition was hereditary, but he was blamed for it. He further added that he couldn't work for 4-5 years because of this incident, which was not even true. He added:

"I never slapped her. This was blasphemy. I have always respected all the leading ladies I worked with and never had an incident with anybody. I don’t have any angst against the lady concerned. This was exaggerated to the point one could not believe it, and it was done by a journalist who had some angst with me."

Sanjay Khan revealed how the incident impacted his mental health

In the same conversation, Sanjay revealed that he had met Zeenat the next day, and she was completely fine. However, the press started this rumour, and it mentally tortured him. He claimed that he had never once harmed her or anyone, physically or mentally. Sanjay further added shared about their relationship and stated:

"One thing that is very pertinent to note is that neither Raj Kapoor nor Dev Anand called me even once to ask me what happened. Raj Kapoor was very close to me and I also knew Dev Sahab, I respected him a lot. If they felt some injury was done by me to her, they would have definitely asked me, especially Raj ji. So it speaks a lot about the person. It was a one-sided thing. Sometimes it happens that an actor and an actress get into character and they start living the character off the screen too. So if the romance was between the prince and the princess, they remain the prince and the princess. So the question of being in love in real life…didn’t happen."
