Nargis Dutt's death was hard on the Dutt family, her fans and the entire industry. However, it was actor, Sanjay Dutt who took it the hardest. The actor was closest to his mother, and losing her broke him. Nonetheless, he soon found his footing and made his life better. Now, 44 years later, the actor revealed that he still feels his mother's love, as he shared a heartfelt post for Nargis.
It has been 44 years since Nargis passed away, and every day has laid heavy on the Dutt family. Sanjay has often shared pictures of his parents, Nargis and Sunil Dutt, but today he honoured his mother's love in a heartfelt post. The actor took to his Instagram handle on the eve of May 3, 2025, and shared a series of pictures. The actor shared three black-and-white photographs on his account.
The first picture featured Nargis Dutt looking radiant in a saree. Her vibrant glow lit up her face. She held books in one hand, and her lips were curved in a beautiful smile. The second picture features, Nargis, Sanjay and Sunil. A young Sanjay curiously peered into the cradle while his parents smiled lovingly at his sister. It was a perfect moment for a happy family. The third shows the power couple with their toddler son, Sanjay standing together in a moment of familial pride and innocence. The family portrait held the memories of their love and happiness. Sanjay shared the post with a loving caption that read:
"You may not be here, but your love never left. Miss you every day, Maa."
It was in 1980, during a Rajya Sabha session, when Nargis Dutt fell ill and was admitted for the treatment of jaundice. However, after 15 days of tests, her condition kept worsening, and it was concluded that she had pancreatic cancer. While the actress was determined to fight the disease, fate had different plans. She passed away on May 3, 1981 after falling in a coma on May 2, the same year. Her passing a few days before Sajay's debut film, Rocky, left him heartbroken.
Sanjay Dutt faced a deeply troubled phase after his mother, Nargis' sickness and death. The actor was extremely close with her mom and the loss took a toll on him. The actor finding it difficult to cope soon fell in the circle of subastance abuse. During a conversation with Vicky Lalwani, his sister, Priya Dutt opened up about his struggles to cope with Nargis' health and passing. She revealed that since Sanjay was in India while Nargis was being treated in the United States made it difficult for them to keep a look over him. She was quoted as saying:

"Sanju's drug abuse had started while our mother was sick… As he was here (India) most of the time. Nobody had the time to keep a check on him, because our focus then was our mom and her illness. Mom's passing away really took a toll on him… Mom often told him that his movie has to be released and that she will be there for him."
