Priya Dutt Reveals How Sanjay Dutt Dealt With Death Of His First Wife, Richa At 32 'It Was Tragic..'

Sanjay Dutt is the son of late actor, Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt. Everyone used to think he had a privileged life due to his family legacy, but that wasn't the case. Known for his strong screen presence and unique style, the actor had to deal with major highs and lows. From blockbuster hits to prison time and from public criticism to personal loss, Sanjay has seen it all. The public has been a witness to the actor's turbulent love life, including the death of his first wife, Richa. In a new interview, Sanjay Dutt's sister, Priya Dutt, shared how the actor dealt with the death of Richa due to a brain tumour when he was 32.

Priya Dutt reveals Richa Sharma's brain tumour diagnosis was 'tough' for the actor

After Richa Sharma's demise, Sanjay Dutt has been mostly silent about his bond with his first wife. But his sister, Priya Dutt, recently sat down for an interview with Vicky Lalwani and revealed what went on behind the scenes for the actor. She shared that the actor didn't get to see stability in his life. After the heart-breaking demise of their mom, Nargis Dutt, due to cancer, it wasn't easy for the actor to deal with his wife, Richa's brain tumour diagnosis and death at an early age. In her words:

"He has never had that stability. It was a very tragic thing… Richa was such a young age diagnosed with a brain tumour, and she passed away that young. It has been particularly very tough for bhaiya."

Priya added that their whole family was shattered by what happened with Richa, but they could come out of it stronger. She mentioned that together they had seen some of the best and worst times, but always bounced back from it. Priya also mentioned that her brother, Sanjay, is a resilient man, and despite facing some of the most difficult struggles in his life, he comes back victorious. Explaining how they got over it, she said:

"It is not about how we have got it all bad. I believe your problems seem too much until you see somebody else's problems. With god's grace, at least we have been able to come out stronger out of every problem… hua hai problems I am not saying nahi hua hai (There were a lot of problems, not denying that). We have seen the worst, and we have seen the best as well. But he is a resilient person; he takes things in his stride. You can't pin him down too long; he will always return."

Priya Dutt shares how Sanjay Dutt dealt with cancer 

After completing his prison time, fans were overjoyed when Sanjay Dutt made his comeback in films. They wanted to see him more on-screen, and the actor finally had a peaceful time in his life, but he was diagnosed with cancer. In the same conversation, Priya said that it was the time when he was set to make a comeback with some good offers. But rather than being affected by it, Sanjay bravely faced it head-on and continued working. Sharing Sanjay's attitude towards the illness, Priya said:

"All he asked was not to be treated like a patient. He used to come from chemotherapy and would work out straight after. He doesn't let anything bring him down."

Sanjay Dutt's personal life so far 

Sanjay Dutt married actress Richa Sharma In the US in 1987. But, within two years of their marriage, she was diagnosed with brain tumour. Richa went to the US for her treatment and passed away in 1996. The couple's daughter, Trishala Dutt, is a psychotherapist. She lives in the US with her grandparents but shares a warm bond with her father. The actor later tied the knot with actress-model, Rhea Pillai in 1998 but legally parted ways in 2005. Sanjay married Maanyata Dutt for the third time in Goa in 2008. The couple became parents to twins, a daughter, Iqra and a son, Shahraan, in 2010. They live together and have been going strong over time.
