Gone are the days when haldi was just a one-hour function, where everyone would decently apply the auspicious batter to the to-be married couple. Now, with the changing times, it has evolved into a vivacious and zealous ceremony. The fun that a couple has on their haldi ceremony with friends and family around makes the function a jovial one. These fun-filled moments have returned for the Phogat family as this year, the youngest daughter of Mahavir Singh Phogat and Daya Kaur, Sangeeta Phogat is getting married to her fellow wrestler, Bajrang Punia. In December 2019, Babita Phogat and Vivek Suhag had tied the knot in a grand ceremony and a few days before their wedding, her younger sister, Sangeeta Phogat had gotten rokafied with Bajrang Punia. Sharing the good news back then and welcoming the youngest soon-to-be son-in-law in the family, Geeta Phogat had written, “Roka ceremony ke shubh avsar par Phogat pariwar ka hissa banne ke liye @bajrangpunia60 ko bohot-bohot shubhkaamnayein aur saath me humari sabse choti aur laadli behen @sangeetaphogat57 ko bhi bohot-bohot shubhkaamnayein aur aashirwaad. Bhagwan ka aashirwaad tum dono par bana rahe.”
The celebrations have begun in the Phogat family with Sangeeta Phogat’s shaadi ki pehli rasam i.e., the baan ritual. For those who are wondering what this ritual is, baan embarks the beginning of the first ritual in a wedding, wherein the ladies or elders of the house apply haldi ubtan on the bride-to-be, a day before or a few days before the wedding to ensure that her skin glows on her D-day. Geeta Phogat had posted a picture with her sister, Sangeeta and had captioned it as “Shaadi ki pehli rasam.” Sangeeta too, had posted pictures and a video from the baan ceremony on her IG handle.

Post the baan ritual, the Phogat family hosted the haldi ceremony of Sangeeta Phogat and for the function, the to-be bride twinned in yellow with her eldest sister, Geeta Phogat and her nephew, Arjun Saroha. Sangeeta made for a happy bride-to-be in a yellow coloured ensemble with floral jewellery and shades complementing her look. Geeta opted for a yellow-coloured suit with contrasting pink dupatta and her little one looked super-adorable in a yellow sweatshirt and black pants. Geeta and Sangeeta’s sister, Babita Phogat, who is expecting her first child, opted for a comfortable white kurta. According to a report by Zee News India, Sangeeta Phogat and Bajrang Punia will tie the knot on November 25, 2020, in Balali village in the presence of their families. Just like her sister, Babita Phogat and Vivek Suhag, Sangeeta and Bajrang will also take eight pheras instead of seven, which will be dedicated to the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative. The mehendi ceremony will be held on November 24, 2020.
A few days before the wedding ceremonies of Sangeeta Phogat had kickstarted, her sister, Babita Phogat had announced her pregnancy. Revealing that she is expecting her first child with hubby, Vivek Suhag, Babita had posted a picture from her birthday celebrations flaunting her baby bump and had captioned it as “Every single moment that I spend being your wife, I realize how lucky I am to live such an amazing life. You are my happy place." You complete me. “I’m excited & waiting to start this new chapter in my life”.”
It was a few weeks ago when Geeta Phogat, Pawan Saroha and Arjun Saroha had reunited with her parents, Mahavir Singh Phogat and Daya Kaur, sisters, Babita Phogat and Sangeeta Phogat, her brother, Dushyant Phogat and her brother-in-law, Vivek Suhag post the lockdown. Geeta’s soon-to-be one-year-old son, Arjun Saroha had made his ‘Dangal’ debut back then as he had stepped into the akhada with his wrestler family. The doting parents had posted glimpses of Arjun’s first time in akhada, where the family of three was joined by Geeta’s siblings, Sangeeta Phogat and Dushyant Phogat. While Geeta had captioned the pictures as “Mitti ka tan hai kya din raat sajna, mitti hi manzil tan par kya itrana” in Hindi, Pawan had written, “Beta Arjun, jitni tum mitti ki izzat karoge, utna hi mitti tumhari izzat karegi.” (Also Read: Anushka Sharma Is A Sight To Behold As She Posts A Glimpse Of Pregnancy Diaries, Flaunting Baby Bump)
