Former NCB officer, Sameer Wankhede, is currently embroiled in a highly publicised defamation case involving Shah Rukh Khan and his son, Aryan Khan. It was based on Sameer's claims that Aryan Khan's directorial, The Ba***ds of Bollywood, included a scene that tarnished his reputation. However, did you know that this is not Sameer Wankhede's first high-profile case involving a Bollywood celebrity? Before SRK and Aryan, he was dragged to court by director, Anurag Kashyap. Anurag also slammed him due to his involvement in the Aryan Khan narcotics case, alleging that he was only after Bollywood.
As all eyes are currently on the Sameer Wankhede vs. Shah Rukh Khan feud, a past interview of Anurag Kashyap with Faye D'Souza has resurfaced, in which he shared his own personal experience with the officer and also raised questions regarding information leaks in the Aryan Khan narcotics case. Back in 2021, when the news of Aryan's arrest was making headlines, Anurag claimed that everyone in B-town had had a 'very bad experience' with Sameer Wankhede.
The Indian filmmaker also questioned why certain media outlets received details of Aryan's case's investigation before the NCB had officially released them, and why the NCB subsequently denied those reports. He pointed to Sameer as the officer leading this 'agenda' against the Bollywood film industry. Anurag's exact words were:
"Everybody has had a very bad experience (with Sameer Wankhede). Why is it that certain news media, gets information of the investigation out, before it has officially been put out by NCB? And then NCB denies it. Have you seen the agenda? The officer in charge is Sameer Wankhede."
In 2013, Sameer Wankhede, then a Deputy Commissioner in the Service Tax Department, launched an investigation into Gangs of Wasseypur director, Anurag Kashyap, on suspicion of service tax evasion. The officer froze Anurag's bank accounts for two years over the dispute. The latter then took the matter to court. According to Anurag, his bank accounts were unfrozen just 15 minutes before the court hearing, indicating the action was retaliatory rather than legally sound.
In the resurfaced interview with Faye D'Souza, he stated that Sameer 'loves invading Bollywood'. He also claimed that Sameer told him that his case was 'being made an example' for the people of the industry. Anurag alleged that Sameer put him through all that trouble for no reason. He further stated that Sameer 'was always associated with Bollywood' and that he 'loves making a statement' as he goes around giving comments to every media house. Regarding his own case, Anurag mentioned:

"He [Sameer] loves invading Bollywood. He was the man who froze my bank account for two years. When I dragged them to court, 15 minutes before my court hearing, my bank account was defreezed, after two years of putting me in trouble. I was told on my face that I was being made an example out of. The article came out on Mumbai Mirror."
Anurag Kashyap's bank accounts were frozen by the service tax department due to an alleged failure to pay Rs. 55 lakh in service tax. He was supposed to have paid the amount the previous year. Reportedly, the director owed Rs 77 lakh but managed to pay off only Rs 15 lakh of the debt. It was the result of a law that took effect in July 2012, stating that professionals needed to pay a service tax of 12.36 per cent. When the interviewer asked Anurag if he thought Sameer threatened the industry, the former replied with a stern no. He believed that Sameer was a pawn in a bigger game and was only being used as a 'distraction' from it.
