Actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu has recently shared her insights about menstruation and how having a discussion on periods is still a matter of shame. Still, people prefer to keep conversations involving periods under wraps. The actress said the discussions involving a woman’s monthly cycle are still met with silence, whispers and shame.

In a recent interview with IANS, Samantha said that discussing anything in public that involves a woman’s monthly cycle is still a stigma for society. So, people considered it as a shame to have a conversation about periods and thus prefer maintaining silence. Speaking about the same, in an interview with IANS, Samantha said: 

“As women, we've come so far, yet conversations around periods are still met with silence, whispers, and shame."

Recently Samantha appeared in an episode of the podcast Take 20 with Rashi Chowdhary, head nutritionist at Nutrition in Sync. On the show, Samantha was seen having a discussion with Rashi about menstrual health and the need to normalise the stigma behind the conversations related to menstrual health. She also discussed women’s everyday health struggles, cycle syncing, and endometriosis. Speaking of the same, in the IANS interview, the actress said:

“Speaking with Rashi Chowdhary reminded me how crucial it is to break these taboos and dated notions. Our cycles are powerful and, most importantly, life-affirming. Definitely not something to be ashamed of or hide or, for that matter, even taken lightly."

Samantha Ruth Prabhu shared how to overcome the social stigma involved with menstruation

In the podcast Take 20, Samantha and Rashi gave their insights on how to overcome the societal stigma attached to periods. Rashi stated many such examples of women not visiting a temple during periods or entering the kitchen during their periods. The nutritionist also gave a solution to overcome the shame that women face while uttering the word ‘period’. The nutritionist revealed that women need to start believing that menstruation is nothing shameful but their power. Samantha also added that having more such conversations related to menstrual health can only break the social stigma.
