Sakshi Tanwar is one of the most popular faces of Indian television. She is recognised for some of her iconic roles, including ‘Parvati’ in Kahani Ghar Ghar Kii, ‘Maya’ in Kutumb and most remarkably as ‘Priya’ in Bade Acche Lagte Hai. Sakshi also performed tremendously well in films like Dangal, Mohalla Assi, Samrat Prithviraj and many others. In her personal life, 51-year-old actress is a single mother to her daughter, Dityaa Tanwar, whom she adopted in 2018.

“I think all of us are trying to achieve that balance, which is the biggest challenge women face because of society’s expectations and our own dreams and aspirations. In the middle of all that is your child – who wants your attention and has his own set of expectations from you. As a parent, you are constantly trying to achieve that balance.”

Sakshi further revealed how she plans her day, considering her responsibilities as an actor as well as a parent. She credited her line of work for being flexible enough, such that she isn’t fixed into a constant 9-5 pattern of work. Moreover, Sakshi explained that she prefers to set up her work schedule as per her availability, leading to a total of only 50-65 days of work for her in a year. In her words:
“Fortunately for me, I am not a typical working mom because my work is not a daily 9-to-5 job. I don’t have to wake up in the morning, go to work, and come back in the evening. I can plan my shoots as per requirements, and I’m only shooting 50 to 65 days of the year. I can manage my time because parenting is a full-time job, and you don’t have any excuse for not being there.”
Towards the end of the interview, Sakshi Tanwar admitted how she has the help and guidance of her family members, who willingly take away a lion’s share of workload and responsibilities, when it comes to raising Dityaa. Furthermore, Sakshi reflected that raising a child brings about new challenges every day, and to deal with such dynamic state of affairs, there is not handbook to follow. She added:
“If you have to be there with the child, you’ve got to be there. I have been lucky that when I was shooting, my family stepped in and was very supportive. My bhabhi, my sister took care of my child. It’s very difficult to strike that balance, and it’s the most challenging thing to have a balance between your own aspirations and time with your child. Every day is a new lesson and a new challenge. When the child is throwing a tantrum, there is no manual or support system to guide you. You just handle it however you can. It is challenging.”
