Popular director, Mohit Suri, is celebrating the success of his movie, Saiyaara, which stars debutants- Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The director is known for his emotional romantic movies, such as Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain, and his latest offering, Saiyaara has shattered records at the box office. Apart from impressive numbers in advance bookings, do you know that Mohit felt that Ahaan was not fit for the movie and the role of 'Krish Kapoor'?
Mohit's latest romantic drama movie, Saiyaara, has impressed all cinelovers as well as critics. During a recent interview with India Today, Mohit shared that he was not sure of Ahaan being able to play the lead character in Saiyaara. Mohit was asked by Aditya if he could make a film with Ahaan. Mohit felt that Ahaan was pretty nice and sweet to fit the character that required anger as well as passion in love. Mohit revealed:
"Ahaan was in the Yash Raj system, and was supposed to do a film with them, which didn’t happen. When Adi (Chopra) Sir read my script, he asked if I would consider him. I always wanted to make this film with newcomers, so Adi Sir said, ‘I’ve got just the guy for you.' When I met Ahaan, he was so nice and sweet that you didn’t feel he was the character at all. I told Adi Sir, and he insisted on trying him out."
Mohit shared that he had a formal dinner with Ahaan and also had a couple of beers, but he felt that Ahaan was holding something back. When Ahaan thought that his audition had ended, he put his guard down, and that was the time when his real self came out. Mohit saw that spark in the young actor he was looking for and shared the script of his character was a fusion of Ahaan's real personality and what he had penned. Mohit shared:
"I sensed he was holding something back. So I told him, ‘Stop calling me sir, just call me by my name. Take me to your world.’ We went to a nightclub, and by the end of the night, he was literally sitting on the bar - not the chair, the bar itself - and that’s when I realised, this is my guy. That’s the energy I needed.”
In an earlier interview with Variety, Mohit shared that many filmmakers advised him not to make Saiyaara. Speaking of the movie, Saiyaara, Krish (Ahaan) is shown to be an aspiring singer, while Vanni (Aneet) is a lyricist who writes for his music. They are poles apart in lives, belief systems and even backgrounds, still both are perfect for each other. Mohit shared that the industry experts did not appreciate the launch of a romantic movie with debut stars at a time when big-budget and action-packed blockbuster movies dominated the industry. Speaking of the reason behind the same, Mohit shared:
"No one’s going to make a film with youngsters or a love story in this market, especially not with newcomers. Today’s cinema is all about larger-than-life productions and guaranteed blockbusters.”
What are your views on Mohit Suri thinking that Ahaan Panday is not the right fit for Saiyaara?
