'All Choices Are Different..' Saina Nehwal Once Reflected On Her Relationship With Parupalli Kashyap

Saina Nehwal got married to the love of her life, Parupalli Kashyap, back in 2018. It's almost seven years later, when in July 2025, the famous badminton player, Saina, announced her separation from Parupalli, which came as a shock to many. Before their wedding, the couple had kept their relationship hush-hush. Well, in an old interview, Saina and Parupalli shared details about their relationship and their beautiful love story.

Saina Nehwal once said that her and Parupalli's choices are different, except for badminton

Taking to her IG handle, Saina Nehwal, on July 13, 2025, revealed that after much thinking, she and Parupalli decided to part ways as they are focused on their healing journey, growing and peace for each other and themselves. Well, there was a time, when the couple talked about how their bond formed, which we could easily tag as 'opposites attract'. In an interview with You & I, Saina and Parupalli were asked how they met. The couple revealed that they met at a stadium, and after travelling together, it was there that they fell in love.

When Saina was asked what's common between her and Parupalli, she stated that, except for badminton, nothing is common between them. Parupalli said that they have their first preferences for badminton, and that's the only thing which is common between them, apart from which, they are opposite to each other. Parupalli could be quoted as saying:

"For both of us, badminton comes first. We are second to each other in order of preference. Apart from that we’re opposite in every way."

Going forward in the interview, Saina Nehwal and Parupalli Kashyap were asked how different they are from each other. To this, Saina added that while Parupalli has a giving nature, she's really shy when it comes to connecting with people. She also added how he likes intense movies, while she enjoys Bollywood masala. Saina also shared that it's mutual love and respect that is the glue of a lasting bond, while Kashyap added that love, which is showed in the movies, lasts for a short span and it's the fact that two people can understand each other the way they are, is the only thing, that builds the strongest foundation. He said:

"Understanding each other. The way they show love in movies only lasts for a short span. In the longer run it’s only the understanding of each other’s nature that makes it last."

Parupalli Kashyap shared that his and Saina's relationship was a bit 'immature'

In the same interview, Parupalli Kashyap was asked the exact moment when he decided to marry Saina. To this, Parupalli said that it was in 2010 when he decided to marry Saina, as their relationship initially was a bit 'immature', but in that year, something changed, and he realised the amount of love he had for Saina, along with the consistency. Parupalli also shared that by that time, they could be able to separate their losses in their professional lives from the moments they had together, and it was the moment when he suggested that they should get married or move in together. Parupalli could be quoted as saying:

"I felt a steadiness and that helped me realise how much I loved her and how comfortable I was. I even told her after the 2010 Commonwealth Games that following the 2012 London Olympics we should get married or stay with each other!"
