Bollywood royalty, Saif Ali Khan has faced a fair share of action, not only in his on-screen characters but also in his personal life. In January 2025, the entire Bollywood industry was left in shock after the actor was brutally stabbed by an assailant at his own house in Bandra, following which he had to be admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital for emergency surgery. While the actor bravely walked in bleeding profusely with a piece of knife lodged near his spine, this was not the first time that he left his medical team surprised.
Khyati Rupani, a celebrity nutritionist and a former dietician at Lilavati Hospital, recently shared some amusing behind-the-scenes moments with celebrity patients, one of which was with Saif Ali Khan. In a candid chat with Ronak Kotecha, Rupani recalled an incident involving Saif from 2007. In that year, Khan was admitted to Lilavati Hospital after suffering heart complications, which required him to undergo angioplasty.
Rupani, who was Saif’s dietician after the procedure, had customised a diet plan for the actor. However, Saif was particularly upset about the absence of any kind of dessert from the diet plan. Rupani recalled:
“I know Saif Ali Khan was there recently, but back then, he’d come for an angioplasty. He was very particular about, ‘Why is there no dessert?’ I told him, ‘You’ve just had an angioplasty, sir. I’m not going to…’ So, we worked it out. I went to the kitchen and said, ‘Let’s not give him a regular dessert’. So, we used to make custard and jelly.”
Rupani’s revelations were light hearted, but in reality, it was a stark contrast to the serious circumstances Saif was in at that time. In 2007, Saif was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in a critical condition after experiencing severe chest pain on his way to rehearse his performance at the then-upcoming Stardust Awards. Talking about his health, his sister, Soha Ali Khan, had shared with Hindustan Times:
“Saif had been working day and night and was over-exerted. He returned from South Africa at 1.30 am on Sunday and rushed to the MMRDA grounds at the Bandra-Kurla Complex to practice for Sunday night’s Stardust Awards.”
Saif Ali Khan’s 2025 began with a cheerful holiday alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and their sons, Taimoor and Jehangir. However, the joy was short-lived. In the early hours of January 16, he was brutally attacked at his Bandra residence by an assailant who was later identified as Bangladesh-based Shariful Islam. In the altercation, Saif ended up with six brutal stab injuries on his face, neck and back, and one of them was dangerously close to his spine.

Saif suffered six deep stab wounds on his face, neck, and back, with one dangerously close to his spine. Rushed to Lilavati Hospital, he underwent emergency surgery to remove the lodged knife piece. Despite his critical condition, Saif shocked the hospital staff by walking in unaided, refusing a stretcher, and showing immense courage in the face of danger.
