Saif Ali Khan Recalls Night Of Stabbing Incident His Son, Taimur Asking Him, 'You Going To Die'..?

Saif Ali Khan was brutally attacked by Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad on January 16, 2025, at his Bandra residence in Mumbai. The actor had to undergo surgery, had two serious wounds out of six and, in a couple of days, was discharged from the hospital. He resumed his professional duties and gave his first interview after the ordeal.

Saif Ali Khan shares his son, Taimur, asking him if he was going to die? 

Saif recalled the spine-chilling incident in an interview with the Bombay Times. He shared that Kareena had been out to dinner and had some work in the morning, so he stayed. When she was back, they had a chat and went to sleep. After a while, the household rushed in and said that there was an intruder, a guy in Jeh’s room with a knife, asking for money! It was late around 2 am. Saif kind of lost it and went in there to see this guy holding (what he thought were) two sticks over Jeh’s bed. He had a knife in each hand and a mask on. The actor was slashed with two knives and thumped; his kurta was soaked in blood, and he was barefoot. Saif remembered Taimur asking him:

"Kareena was shouting for a rickshaw, or a cab, or anything. I said, I kind of feel some pain. There’s something wrong with my back. She said – you go to the hospital and I’ll go to my sister’s house. She was making calls frantically – but nobody was up. And we looked at each other, and I said, ‘I’m fine. I’m not going to die.’ And Taimur also asked me – ‘Are you going to die?’ I said, ‘No."

Saif shared that something had just taken over, and he had just grabbed the intruder,  ran, and pulled him down. Then, they wrestled. Saif was slashed at the neck and wrist while the actor blocked him with his hand. Saif could not handle it after a while and was losing sensation in his right leg, as he was nicked in the spine, but he did not realise it. Kareena did make calls frantically, but nobody was up at sister, Karisma's place. She also shouted for a rickshaw and a cab and got the kids out of the room.

Saif shared that there are around 30 stitches, and it is a miracle that both his hands and fingers are working fine. He shared having 30 most awful scars running down his neck and revealed he did not understand how the intruder missed his carotid artery and jugular vein. Saif shared it was not possible to cut somebody’s neck the way his neck was cut and not kill them. The actor also shared what the doctors at Lilavati Hospital told him. In his words:

"They said a good three-four inches of the knife has gone in behind the shoulder blade and has worked its way right to the bloody spinal cord. It’s a massive stab and it’s broken off, and there’s spinal fluid leaking out, which is why the feeling in the leg was going. That’s how close it came: Just one more millimetre and we’d be talking paralysis. It’s not like, you know, a back spasm or something that we’re underplaying."

Saif also shared that his mom, Sharmila, was protective. She held his hand and sang him a song, a lullaby, which was very soothing. His kids- Sara and Ibrahim Ali Khan were very emotional and shared that he did not want to show off while walking out of the hospital. He had learnt from his dad to not gain attention or sympathy.
