Ruby Dhalla, a Canadian chiropractor, businesswoman, model, and politician, served as an MP in the House of Commons of Canada as a member of the Liberal Party from 2004 to 2011. After that, she was defeated in the federal election by Conservative Parm Gill. Well, amid political turmoil going on in Canada, PM, Justin Trudeau resigned from his position as the Liberal leader and PM, and the candidature for the post of Prime Minister is currently in process. Ruby Dhalla entered the race to become the leader of the Liberal Party and the next PM of Canada.
On January 6, 205, Trudeau announced that he would resign from his position, but would serve until a new leader is selected. For the unversed, the process of leadership will be going on till March 9, 2025. And Ruby Dhalla was the one to present her candidature on January 22, 2025. The candidates were asked to declare the same by January 23, 2025, and pay 350,000 Canadian dollars to enter the race of becoming the leader of the Liberal Party and the next PM of Canada, along with a written nomination with signatures of 300 registered Liberals. Among others, Chandra Arya, Jaime Battiste, Frank Baylis, Mark Carney, Chrystia Freeland, and Karina Gould are reportedly in the race, along with Ruby Dhalla.
Talking to CTV News after presenting her candidature, Ruby Dhalla shared that she is hoping to create history as the first woman of Indian origin to be elected as Prime Minister of Canada. She also mentioned that it's important for the party and their country, Canada, to have the voices of diversity. She also mentioned that she's not entering the race just because she needs a job, but because she wants to represent all Canadians, irrespective of their class and status. Because it's important that Canada gets the respect that it deserves at the international level, and she will stand up and fight.
The former MP, Ruby Dhalla also mentioned that it's important for the country to have someone who actually runs a business but has started from the grassroots and from the ground up, and someone who can stand up and fight for them. She said:
"I hope that we’re going to make history, and create history as the first woman of Indian origin to be elected as Prime Minister of Canada."

For those who don't know, Ruby Dhalla created history as she won the House of Commons election from Brampton Springdale in 2004. She, along with Conservative leader Nina Grewal, became the first female MP to serve in the House of Commons of Canada. She won again in 2006 and in 2008, before losing in 2011. It was in 2015 when Ruby decided to take a step back from her political career and not contest the elections.
