Ronit Roy Revealed Poverty And Hunger Forced Him To Start Security Agency, Says 'Started Drinking..'

Ronit Roy had a fabulous start in the film industry at the age of 27. He made his debut in 1992 with the commercial hit film, Jaan Tere Naam. In 1993, he was a part of another box office success, Bomb Blast featuring Aditya Pancholi and Kishori Shahne. However, despite these hits, the actor failed to find work, leading him to a bottomless hole of alcoholism, poverty and hunger.

Ronit Roy was forced to start a security agency

Despite the initial success, Ronit Roy struggled to find projects. It made no sense to the actor, and eventually, he found himself trapped in alcoholism with no money to buy food. In a recent conversation with Redcarpet, Ronit recalled the terrible phase of his life that forced him to start a security agency, which today provides services to several A-listers. However, the decision to Ronit was a product of desperation. He stated:

"I am an honest kind of guy; I can only tell you the way it was. It was (the result of) hunger and poverty. Every great step that I have taken in my life has come out of desperation, frustration, and poverty. There was a time when my debut film was a silver jubilee, and after that, I didn’t get any work. I have no idea why. I got frustrated. Silver Jubilee in today’s time is equal to delivering a Rs. 100 to 150 crore film. How can you deliver a film like that and still not get work? I got no work. I got so scared. I had rent to pay and had to feed myself. What would you do without money? So I kind of signed the wrong films, which flopped. I went back to square one and had no work."

Ronit Roy about his alcoholism

In the same conversation, Ronit Roy revealed how he started drinking because everything in his life was going wrong. He added that even though he didn't have food, he never ran out of alcohol. He shared how he was written off by the industry when his friend gave him the idea to start his own business. He stated:

"My alcoholism started out of that frustration. After that, everything went south. My life went into the gutter. Somehow the alcohol would come. I cannot think where the alcohol came from. I would wake up at noon and then have a hangover; it only made things worse. The industry wrote me off; they said I was finished. That's when my friend said that though I am not getting any acting job, my name and face still hold value. He had a security agency, and I used to go to his office to get trained, and that’s where it started. It was a result of desperation."
