Riteish Deshmukh's Film, 'Raja Shivaji's' Dancer Dies By Drowning In River, Body Found After 2 Days

Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji's is currently in the making. While the film's shoot was going well, it met with tragic news after one of the dancers working with the team was found dead on the morning of April 25, 2025. The 26-year-old was part of the choreography team and had gone missing a few days earlier in Satara.

Riteish Deshmukh's Raja Shivaji's dancer dies after drowning

The police have identified the deceased as Saurabh Sharma. His body was found in the early hours of April 25, 2025, two days after he was reported missing. According to the statement by the officials, the incident took place on the evening of April 22, 2025, at Sangal Mahuli. For the unversed, the village is located approximately 250 km from Mumbai, where Raja Shivaji is being shot, at the confluence of the Krishna and Veena rivers in the Satara district. 

Saurabh Sharma's dead body was found after two days of search

According to the reports, the tragedy occurred after Saurabh Sharma had finished filming the song. Colours were thrown during the shoot of the song, and the dancer went down to the bed of the Krishna River to wash his hands. However, after washing his hands, he decided to go deeper into the river for a swim but was swept away by the strong water currents. 

The police and district administration were soon alerted about the missing dancer. Following this, a disaster response and rescue team, including local private organisations, were rushed to the spot. The team launched a search operation to find Saurabh Sharma, but their search on the evening of April 22, 2025, was cut short due to darkness. While the officials continued the search the next day and worked through the entire day, the dancer could not be located.

The officials further reported that Saurabh Sharma's body was finally recovered from the river by the police and rescue team on April 25, 2025, at around 7:30 am. The officials believe that Saurabh lost his life by drowning accidentally and have registered a report with Satara police for the same. However, a further investigation is underway to ensure that no foul play was involved. 

Ritesh Deshmukh's Mumbai Film Company has also issued a statement 

Ritesh Deshmukh's production house, Mumbai Film Company, also issued a statement regarding the drowning of Saurabh Sharma on April 23, 2025. The note was shared on their Instagram handle, which gave a detailed account of what had occurred. While there has been no comment by the actor or the team about the current revelations, a part of the post roughly translated to be read as:

"As soon as the news came to light, actor-director Riteish Deshmukh, producer Genelia Deshmukh and choreographer Remo D'Souza, along with the entire team, immediately reached the river bank. The help of local swimmers was immediately sought to find Saurabh, and the filming drone was used immediately for the search. Mr Deshmukh contacted Satara District Collector Mr Patil and other concerned agencies and requested them to expedite the search operation."

Raja Shivaji is a bilingual Marathi and Hindi film based on the life of legendary Maratha warrior, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The film is being directed by actor, Riteish Deshmukh, who will also star in the lead role. Genelia is producing the film, while Remo D'Souza is the lead choreographer.
