Rhea Chakraborty Recalls Her Stay In Jail, Says Police Thanked Her For Educating About Mental Health

Actress Rhea Chakraborty was caught up in a whirlwind of controversy when she was accused of being involved in the death of her boyfriend, Sushant Singh Rajput. After going through quite a challenging time, she made her comeback to public life with a podcast titled Chapter 2. Rhea has hosted several renowned personalities on her podcast, from Aamir Khan to Sushmita Sen. Most recently, the actress had rapper, Honey Singh grace her podcast, and during a soul-baring chat, she opened up about her time in jail. Rhea also claimed that the police had thanked her for educating them about mental health. 

Rhea Chakraborty recalls being in solitary confinement while talking to Honey Singh about mental illness

Rhea Chakraborty and Honey Singh had an informative and emotional chat about mental illness when the latter graced the actress' podcast. For the unversed, the rapper has openly talked about his mental health issues, including being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. During the conversation, Rhea brought up how misunderstood bipolar disorder was in India, with many people believing patients were crazy or possessed. 

Rhea also revealed that a suicide watch existed inside the jail for people involved in media-sensitive cases. She elaborated that the guards would keep an eye on such people to ensure they didn't take an 'extreme step.' Talking about her own experience in jail, Rhea said:

"Now, because I was in the solitary confinement, I could only speak to these two ladies who were watching me. During that time, I spoke a lot about mental health to them."

Rhea Chakraborty reveals that she used her first 15 days inside the jail to teach the police about mental health

During her chat with Honey Singh, Rhea Chakraborty also revealed how she had spent her time in jail. According to the actress, her first 15 days in the lockup were majorly spent talking to the guards and police about mental health. Rhea stated that she was not only doing this to help them but also to understand things, given everything happening in her life then. 

Rhea further narrated an interesting anecdote about one of the policewomen who was keeping an eye on her. Revealing that the incident took place on her 16th day in jail, Rhea said:

"One of those two ladies told me, 'I am going to my village. All this while, people used to tie my husband to a Peepal tree because they believed he was possessed. But after listening to you, it seems like my husband must be suffering from the same thing.' She thanked me for making her understand."

Rhea revealed another impactful meeting she had with the policewoman when the latter came to meet her on her bail day. The actress, who believed there was a purpose for which she was sent to jail, said:

"She came to meet me on my bail day and said, 'You were right, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.' Sometimes, I think the whole purpose of me being in the jail at that time was to save that man. It is very necessary to understand the illness."

Rhea Chakraborty praises Honey Singh for being brave enough to discuss his illness publicly

During the episode, Honey Singh got candid about his struggles with mental illness, going in-depth about how it made him feel like he was going to die. The rapper even revealed that he had started feeling like his family and friends were impostors due to his BPD. Rhea, moved by Honey Singh's deeply personal revelations, lauded him with the highest praise for being brave enough to discuss such a personal struggle. She also appreciated Honey Singh for creating an awareness about bipolar disorder as many Indians were still unaware about such illnesses.
