One of the finest actresses of her time, Renuka Shahane opened up about the predictions made by society about her marriage with popular actor, Ashutosh Rana. While the duo have interestingly portrayed completely different roles on-screen, their bonding over the years reveals an entirely different side of them. For the unversed, the actor was extremely loved for his villainous roles in Dushman (1988), Sangharsh (1999) and others. In contrast, Renuka never misses a chance to charm us with her simplicity and down-to-earth nature in films and television shows like Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Khichdi (2018) and many more.
Now, in an interview with mid-day, Renuka Shahane revealed how people had weirdly reacted to her marriage with Ashutosh Rana. However, she also mentioned how the actress had assured them to be worried about the actor. Elaborating her point, she said:

“A lot of people said, ‘Kya kar rahi ho? You’re getting married to this (proceeds to mimic Ashutosh’s iconic hand gesture from the film Sangharsh)’. Some people were very worried for me. But I assured them that they should be worried for him. I’m capable of looking after myself."

In the same conversation, Renuka pointed to their dissimilarity in family background and that she was born and brought up in Mumbai. However, Ashutosh belonged to a large joint family in a village. Talking about the same, she mentioned that her friends and family were shocked by her decision to marry Ashutosh. Further, pointing towards his villainous characters on screen, Renuka mentioned that people predicted her marriage wouldn't last more than a month or a year and added:
“With that kind of background, many people thought that we weren’t going to be compatible. In fact, a lot of people who were pretty close to us predicted that we’ll last only one month, or a year, and not more than that…Whatever said and done, it is unfortunate, but the change and the adjustment is usually one way."
At the end of the conversation, the veteran actress admitted how she and her loving husband, Ashutosh have been very complimentary to each other. She also hinted at the various adjustments a woman needs to make for a successful marriage, and her journey with her husband has been quite well. She concluded:
“But it has been a great journey. To tell you frankly, marriage is a gamble, even if you’re in love. There’s no guarantee things will work out in your favour. People can grow in two different ways, and not get along as husband and wife. Or, people can be great friends, but not great partners. Marriage suits both of us, we’ve been very complimentary to each other. We’ve been each other’s greatest strengths; we take each other for granted, we fall back on each other…”
