Vivek Lagoo who was a popular name in Hindi and Marathi cinema passed away on June 19, 2025. He was the ex-husband of late actress, Reema Lagoo, one of the most admired maternal figures in mainstream Indian films. While Reema became a household name with films like Hum Aapke Hain Kaun and Hum Saath Saath Hain, Vivek kept a low profile and was known for his work in theatre and critically acclaimed films. His demise has quietly ended a significant chapter in the world of entertainment.
Popular film journalist, Vickey Lalwani took to his Instagram handle and shared a post to announce the death of veteran actor, Vivek Lagoo. According to his post, the late actor's funeral will be held on June 20, 2025, at the Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai. Although Vivek used to keep a low profile in the past years, he has made significant contributions to both stage and films like Ugly, What About Savarkar? and 31 Divas.
Vivek Lagoo is survived by his daughter, Mrunmayee Lagoo Waikul, who is also a well-known figure in the film industry. She is a prolific writer, credited for writing films like Thappad and Scoop. Mrunmayee is married to Vinay Waikul who is also a director by profession.
Vivek Lagoo met Reema for the first time in the 1970s when they were both working in a bank before becoming full-time actors. They shared a mutual interest in theatre, and after falling in love in 1976, they tied the knot in 1978. After their marriage, the late actress adopted his surname and continued to use it for the rest of her life despite their separation. Although they parted ways after a few years, they continued to have mutual respect and understanding for each other. Once, in an interview, Vivek shared that he and Reema parted ways to 'restructure their lives' and continued to remain on good terms for the rest of their life.
Reema Lagoo passed away in 2017 when she was working on the popular TV show, Naamkarann. After completing her shoot for the day, the actress came home and complained about feeling chest pain at midnight. When her daughter and son-in-law took her to the hospital, she was initially fine but later passed away after a sudden heart attack on the same night without having any health issues. Her daughter, Mrunmayee, performed her final rites at the same Oshiwara crematorium in Mumbai.
