Bollywood has been graced by numerous actresses over the years, but only a few have left an everlasting mark on the industry. Some started strong but faded away, while others redefined stardom with their charm, talent, and dedication. Among them was an actress who not only ruled Bollywood in the '90s but also delivered back-to-back blockbusters. She became a sensation with her dazzling performances, non-stop hits, and an iconic dance number that is still celebrated today.
If you haven’t guessed already, we’re talking about none other than Raveena Tandon, the '90s diva who continues to inspire generations with her journey. Despite being born into a family with deep connections to the industry, Raveena's acting journey began behind the scenes, cleaning studio floors and running errands before grabbing the limelight.
Raveena was associated with the film industry since birth, being the daughter of the famous filmmaker, Ravi Tandon. However, it was not till 1992 that the actress made her Bollywood debut with the film, Patthar Ke Phool, alongside Salman Khan. It was an instant hit, and Raveena became a sensation overnight.
Not long after her debut film's massive success, Raveena's charm and acting prowess made her one of the most sought-after actresses of the decade, during which she delivered back-to-back blockbusters. She starred opposite some of the biggest names in Bollywood, including Akshay Kumar, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, and Ajay Devgn.
At the peak of her career, Raveena Tandon even worked on eight films in a single year, delivering mega hits such as Dulhe Raja, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Mohra, Laadla, and Dilwale. Her song with Akshay Kumar in Mohra, Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast, remains an iconic Bollywood number even today.

Despite coming from such a renowned family, Raveena's entry into Bollywood was not handed to her on a silver platter. After completing her 10th grade, Raveena started working as an intern with filmmaker, Prahlad Kakkar. She had no glamorous job; instead, she mopped floors, cleaned studio sets, and even wiped vomit. In an interview with Mid-Day, the actress shared:
"I did start from cleaning the studio floors to wiping off vomit from the stall floors and studio floors and stuff, and I did assist Prahlad Kakkar... straight out of 10th standard... At that time he used to say that what are you doing behind the screen, you should be in front of the screen, this is for you. Then I replied that no no, me, an actress? Never. I am in this industry by default, I never grew up thinking that I have to become an actor."
It was Prahlad Kakkar who saw her potential and encouraged Raveena to step in front of the camera. Raveena eventually gave modeling a shot, and soon, film offers started pouring in. From then on, with no formal training in acting, dance, or dialogue delivery, Raveena made her way into the industry and became a sensation through sheer hard work.
Even after spending three decades in the industry, Raveena Tandon once again proved she still had the power to captivate audiences. In 2022, she starred in KGF Chapter 2 as 'Prime Minister Ramika Sen'. The film, starring Yash, became one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time, collecting over Rs. 1,200 crore worldwide.
From being the Mast Mast girl of Bollywood to portraying a fierce politician in KGF 2, Raveena has constantly reinvented herself. Even today, she remains a Bollywood icon, and with her daughter, Rasha Thadani stepping into the industry, her legacy is set to continue!
