Ratna Pathak Shah is one of the most talented and renowned veteran stars in Hindi cinema. A theatre thespian, she has worked with some of the stalwarts of Indian cinema all through her life, and woven an incomparable acting career on the celluloid. The 67-year-old star has continued to shine on with her enigmatic persona on the silver screen, and has off lately been a part of quite a few tremendous films, including Lipstick Under My Burkha, Thappad, Hum Do Humare Do, Attack, Dhak Dhak and others. In her personal life, she is married to Naseeruddin Shah.
In a recent interview with Brut, Ratna Pathak Shah acknowledged the fact that she has been on the scarce side of receiving film opportunities off lately. In a competitive field as that of Bollywood, the actress remarks how significantly lesser number of projects coming her way over the years. Ratna emphasised how people value an actor’s appearance now more than their craft now, and added that perhaps her absence from social media is a key reason behind it. In her words:

“Yes, the answer is simply yes. “I don’t know how to blame actors for that because these are the things that are asked and are focused on. Depending on the number of followers, people are getting work today. That is what I have heard. Nobody approached me for work because I am not on Instagram, so maybe can than be a reason possibly. I have been completely unemployed for a whole year now. So these are the kind of things that do seem to matter a lot. What to do also? Where will someone go and learn acting from if they want to learn the craft? It’s quite difficult.”

Back on May 18, 2024, Ratna Pathak Shah along with her husband, Naseeruddin Shah made her first-ever appearance at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. For the day, the veteran actress ditched any designer wear and draped her own saree in yellow-hue, paired with a custom-designed blouse in a dusty pink-hue. She left her tresses open and completed her look with oxidised jewellery. On the other hand, Naseeruddin Shah looked handsome in a custom-tailored white-hued sherwani set.
Earlier, while speaking with Zoom TV entertainment, Ratna Pathak commented on her getting a delayed success in her career, in comparison to her successful contemporaries such as Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. Explaining the possible reason behind the same, the actress remarked how she never really had a unique face that indicated to be an instant success in films. Moreover, Ratna expressed how for the longest time, she felt quite dumb about her prospects in her career and didn’t understand most of the things happening around her.

Previously, during an interaction with Twinkle Khanna for her show, Tweak India Icons, Ratna Pathak gave a sassy remark when asked about her reaction to trollers who have age-shamed her and tagged her as ‘buddhi’. She said:
“Beta, tum bhi aa jaoge. Thoda sa rukh jao. Tum bhi aa jaoge issi line pe.”
