'Santoshi Maa' Fame, Ratan Rajput Underwent Depression After Father's Death, Took Up Farming To Heal

Television actress, Ratan Rajput became a household name with shows like Santoshi Maa and Vighnaharta Ganesh. The beautiful actress, who made her television debut with the show, Raavan in 2006, rose to prominence with the role of ‘Laali’ in the show, Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo. In 2011, Ratan also participated in the marriage reality show, Ratan Ka Rishta, in search of a perfect groom for her.

Though Ratan did not marry the winner of the show but reportedly got engaged to him. In 2013, she participated in the controversial reality show, Bigg Boss season 7 but got evicted soon. Ratan’s role as ‘Santoshi Dhairya Mishra’ in the show, Santoshi Maa garnered a lot of attention. However, the actress went missing soon after the show. In a recent media interaction, Ratan opened up about the same and revealed that she underwent depression.

In an interview with ETimes, Ratan Rajput talked about her disappearance from TV and called it the lowest phase of her life. Recalling the time when her father passed away a day after she wrapped up the shooting of her show, Santoshi Maa, Ratan stated:

“After Santoshi Maa got over in 2018, just a day later, I lost my father and that was a terrible blow for me. I went into depression and did not want to do anything.”

To get out of the depressive phase, Ratan pursued a course in psychology apart from consulting psychologists. She left acting and went to a village to take up farming which helped her to heal. Revealing how she explored her inner self while travelling and farming, Ratan shared:

“Doing farming in villages for three months was therapeutic and helped me heal to some extent. I also learnt that people in villages live a life free from pretensions. I enjoyed my time there and this journey helped me explore my inner self, too.

Ratan Rajput had struggled a lot to make a name for herself in the world of glamour. The actress, who is known for calling a spade a spade, talked about the ugly side of the glamour world by sharing her experience with the casting couch. In one of her YouTube Vlogs, Ratan revealed how a 60–65-year-old man tried to make advances at her. Talking about the same, Ratan had said:

“It was 14 years ago today. I had just moved to Mumbai. There was a 60-65-year-old man. He insulted me. Said, Look at your hair, look at your skin, how they are dressed. You have to change your entire look. You need a complete makeover, it will cost around 2 to 2.5 lakh rupees to get all this done. But why should I spend money on you? If you want me to spend money on you, you have to make me your godfather. You have to be my friend.”

After staying away from TV for four years, Ratan is planning to make a comeback!
