Amid promotions for his upcoming film, Dhurandhar, Ranveer Singh is facing a second legal issue. Earlier, Major Mohit Sharma's family approached the court, alleging that the film appeared to be made about his life without their consent. Now, a complaint has been filed against the lead star, Ranveer, for reportedly hurting sentiments by his mimicry of Rishabh Shetty's Daiva scene from the Kantara franchise.
Ranveer Singh recently made headlines after he mimicked Rishabh Shetty's portrayal of Daiva from Kantara Chapter 2 on the stage of the International Film Festival of India, Goa, on November 28, 2025. People found it offensive and mocking of the entity, which is held in divine regard in many communities. Moreover, Ranveer also referred to the Daiva as 'female ghost'. Although Ranveer apologised later with a social media statement, the issue is far from over.

Prashanth Metal, an advocate from Bengaluru, filed a complaint against Ranveer Singh over the incident. The complainant stated that the Dhurandhar actor impersonating the Ullalthi Daiva (female deity) has hurt the sentiments of Hindus, especially the Tulu-speaking community. For the unversed, the Tulu language is spoken in the coastal regions of Karnataka, culturally known as Tulu Nadu/ Tulunad. People in this region engage in a traditional spirit-worshipping celebration known as Bhoota Kola and revere Daiva, the local divine guardian spirit, as shown in Rishabh Shetty's Kantara movies.

Hence, the complaint has been filed against Ranveer under Sections 299, 302, and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. For the unversed, the first two mentioned sections criminalise and penalise actions that are deemed offensive and outrageous to religious sentiments. Meanwhile, the latter prohibits actions that promote hatred between different communities. If found guilty, a person can face imprisonment for 1-5 years, a fine, or both.

Apart from the lead star of Dhurandhar, the makers of the film are also facing legal troubles. The family of the late Major Mohit Sharma approached Delhi High Court with the claim that the film and Ranveer's appearance in the film seem to be inspired by the martyr's life. However, consent wasn't taken from Major Sharma's family, shared his brother, Madhur Sharma, who has been spearheading the issue against the film's team. Director of Dhurandhar, Aditya Dhar, however, denied the claims. The braveheart's family has still demanded a private screening to determine whether the film is based on Major Sharma or not. Aditya Dhar shared:

“I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family, and in a way that truly honors his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us."
