Rani Kapur Slams Daughter-In-Law Priya Kapur Amid Family Legal Battle, Says, 'Very Hurtful For Me..'

Sunjay Kapur's tragic death in June 2025 has clearly left a void, which his fans and family have still not overcome. Ever since his unexpected death, his entire family has been busy in a legal battle over the will of the businessman. For the unversed, the battle began when Priya Kapur tried to take control over her late husband's wealth. Well, now Rani Kapur has come forward and slammed Priya. 

Rani Kapur slams Priya Kapur in the ongoing legal battle

Recently, Rani Kapur had a conversation with ANI, during which she opened up about the ongoing legal battle and slammed Sunjay Kapur’s widow, Priya. When asked about the legal disputes, Rani described it as ‘hurtful’ and stated that the business in question was built by her late husband and the legal battle is deeply affecting her. She shared:

"It's very hurtful for me because my husband made this trust (RK family trust) and gave everything to me. This girl (Priya Kapur) tried to take over everything my husband built all his life. We moved from Bombay to Delhi, we built the house. That house I have built sitting under a tree. She thinks she's got it."

Further, Rani Kapur claimed that the minute Priya and Sunjay got married, the entire situation changed. Rani shared that soon after Sunjay’s death, Priya started taking control over the business and wealth. Rani Kapur also explained that it breaks her to see Priya controlling the entire wealth and business. However, what grabbed attention was when Rani stated that she does not want Priya near the place where all the family’s primary assets are kept. In her words:

"Luckily, I have this house and I've been away from Delhi since my son died. I've not gone back. I'm scared now. What is she going to do to me?...I don't know what she is going to do to get the wealth and it's all my husband's work. Nobody else's. My son took over because he's the son. That's it... I don't want her near that place."

Rani Kapur continues to have good relations with Karisma Kapoor

During the same conversation, Rani Kapur spoke about her bond with her late son, Sunjay Kapur and stated that they were very close to each other. Rani claimed that Priya would not have been able to show so much power and control if Sunjay would have been alive. Further, Rani also opened up about Karisma Kapoor and her children with the late businessman. Talking about the same, Rani Kapur was quoted as saying:

"She (Priya) wouldn’t have had the guts to have a dispute if Sunjay had been alive. He was married to two nice girls, a good family. He's got two children from his second wife (Karisma Kapoor), whom I meet all the time."

When Rani Kapur wanted to remove Priya Kapur as a trustee

Nearly 2-3 weeks ago, a report by ANI claimed that Rani Kapur stated that the legal dispute is taking a serious turn and had decided to remove her daughter-in-law from the role as a trustee. According to reports, Rani had sent a legal notice asking Priya to step down from the position. Further, a report by News 18 claimed that Rani has the power to remove Priya from her role as trustee without giving any reason. Reportedly, later Priya Sachdev had accused Rani Kapur of suppressing all the facts and also asserted that the trust deed was kind of executed voluntarily.

For the unversed, businessman, Sunjay Kapur tragically passed away on June 12, 2025. He was 53 years old at that time. Reportedly, he was playing a polo match when he tragically passed away. While playing, Sunjay felt uncomfortable and collapsed on the floor before he could have been rushed to hospital. In his personal life, Sunjay was previously married to Karisma Kapoor; however, after their divorce, the businessman found love in Priya Kapur.
