Randeep Hooda is a popular actor in Bollywood who is admired for his impressive screen presence, ability to play versatile roles and powerful dialogue delivery. Hailing from Haryana, he gained a massive fan following with films like Love Aaj Kal, Highway, Heroine, Murder 3, and more. The actor surprised everyone when he announced his wedding to his then-girlfriend, Lin Laishram. Since Randeep has always been private about his personal life, fans were left surprised when the actor tied the knot in a traditional Maitei ceremony in Imphal. In a recent interview, Randeep revealed that his family was against his marriage to Lin outside their caste and how he managed to convince them.
Randeep Hooda has been on a promotional spree for his newly released film, Jaat. Amid that, he sat down for an interview with Shubhankar Mishra and shared some inside details from his marriage with Lin Laishram. The actor explained that he had no plans of getting married in his life. But things changed when his path collided with his now-wife, Lin, who made him change his decision. In his words:
"I used to be very sad in school. I would think that I wouldn't like to bring another person into this world who'd go through schooling like I did. So I never had the intention, but somehow, our paths crossed, and I'm very happy that they did. I got a little late in getting married because I joke that I don't have a government job".
The way ahead wasn't easy for the couple because Lin hails from Manipur while Randeep is a Jaat. He believes that Manipur is a part of India like any other state, and when he fell in love with his now wife, religion, caste, geography, and more didn't matter. However, his family had a diferent opinion because they wanted him to marry within his caste. Recalling that memory, he said:
"There were complications. Like anyone else, my parents also wanted that I marry within the caste. That's quite prevalent in Jaats. In fact, I'm the first one from my family to marry a non-Jaat. So everybody had a problem with that, but it gradually went away."
In the same conversation, Randeep recalled his marriage with Lin Laishram in Manipur in November 2023. He explained that there was unrest in the state during those months due to violent clashes between a few tribes. However, the actor wanted to tie the knot in his bride's home state. Consequently, Randeep and Lin had extra security at their wedding, which eventually exceeded the number of his family members who attended the marriage. He said:
"There was a problem going on in Manipur at the time of our wedding. But I thought the wedding should take place in the bride's city. I wanted to support and respect my wife and her family's culture. The security escorted us everywhere. We had more security personnel than the baraatis. There were only 10 of us because we didn't want to put too much burden on the bride's family. And since the environment was problematic, I didn't want too much fanfare".
Randeep Hooda and Lin Laishram met when they both worked in theatre at Naseeruddin Shah's theatre group called 'Motley.' The Sultan actor was Lin's senior, and soon, the two became friends. They shared a great friendship for a long time before they realised their love for each other. Fans first noticed her connection with him when Randeep Hooda shared a picture with her in a birthday post in 2021. The couple lived together during the pandemic, and soon Lin accompanied him to his ancestral village in Haryana to meet his family. They tied the knot in a traditional Maitei ceremony on November 29, 2023.
