Directed by Omung Kumar, the film, Sarbjit is a biopic of an Indian farmer named Sarabjit Singh, who was arrested by the Pakistan military on the grounds of terrorism and espionage in Pakistan. In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Randeep Hooda was asked if he felt ‘disappointed, cheated, upset’ when his co-star, Aishwarya took huge credit while he was overlooked in Sarbjit. Responding to the same, he said that when an artist gauges their worth by looking at the number of awards they have won, it wouldn't be helpful for them. However, he added that it would be unbecoming of him to say that he deserved more than Aishwarya and said:
“Firstly, as an artist, if you are gauging your worth on the basis of how many awards you’ve won, it’s not going to be very helpful. The recognition that you get from your fraternity can be encouraging, but all I can say is that I’m happy for Aishwarya that she won, even though I didn’t. To now complain that I deserved it more would be unbecoming. If people say it, that’s a victory in itself.”
Speaking along the same lines, Randeep continued that he never talked about his feeling about being overlooked in Sarbjit even though he felt really bad. He also added that he overcame the situation and moved on to the next thing, as he didn't want to give anyone much control over his own self-image. Randeep said:
“I’ve never indulged in this kind of talk, because it would seem like a case of sour grapes. Did I feel bad? Of course I did. But it’s not like the world ended. You move on to the next thing. But as an actor and filmmaker, if I give others this much control about my own self-image, I would’ve been done a long time ago.”

Earlier, in an interview with Humans of Bombay, Randeep Hooda opened up on his experience of working with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the film, Sarbjit. Talking about the same, he said that the actress had a very sincere presence on set, but they didn't share a lot of scenes together. Randeep also mentioned that despite the team's best efforts to make Aishwarya look plainer and real, they weren’t quite successful. He added that the actress looked unreal and said:
“She was great, very courteous, she does her job well. She’s all there, she’s very sincere about it. Although we didn’t have many interactions on set because a lot of my scenes were away from her, but whenever we did, she was all that she’s made out to be. They tried their best to make her look real, but she’s so unreal.”
