Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor are the 'IT' couple in the Hindi film industry. The duo fell in love during the shoot of their film, Brahmastra. And it was in 2022, when they took their relationship a notch higher by tying the knot. Ranbir and Alia became parents to their baby girl, Raha, in November 2022. In an interview with Nikhil Kamath on his podcast, Ranbir Kapoor opened up about his personal life. He also recalled the first time he met his wife, Alia Bhatt and shared that he was 20 years old back then. The actor added that Alia was just a 9-year-old girl when she was invited to do a photoshoot with him as Sanjay Leela Bhansali wanted to make a film called 'Balika Vadhu' about child marriage. Later, Ranbir Kapoor's statement was picked by the UK news site, Metro, but it was given a surprising twist. It so happened that Ranbir's statement was taken out of context and the term 'Balika Vadhu' was translated to child marriage. The headline of the news report hinted that Ranbir was 20 when he met then-9-year-old Alia for their child marriage. The headline of the story can be read as:
"Actor recalls meeting future wife when he was 20 and she was 9 for 'child marriage' film."
As soon as the post was shared online, several netizens flooded the comment section and reacted to it. Making fun of Ranbir, a user commented, "Ranbir Kapoor is finally a global name. All for the wrong reasons." Another comment can be read as "Why the hell would Ranbir mention the Balika Vadhu link to this, it's like he does what PR says and takes 5 steps back."

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor celebrated their second wedding anniversary on April 14, 2024. Taking to her IG handle, Alia dropped two adorable photos to mark the special day. The first photo showed Alia dressed in a pretty outfit featuring a floral-patterned lacy strap, while Ranbir looked dapper in a black-hued tuxedo and a white shirt. In the next photo, we could see the popular comic characters, 'Carl' and 'Ellie' from the 2009 Disney film, Up, dancing in joy on their balcony. Alongside it, Alia penned:
"Happy 2, here’s to us my love… today & many many years from today."
