Ranbir Kapoor has made a name for himself with his top-notch performances in various films. The actor, who has been the lead in popular films like Barfi, Sawariyaa, Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani and more, will be next seen in Nitesh Tiwari’s trilogy, Ramayana. Fans are waiting with their bated breaths to witness the magic of Ranbir as ‘Ram’ in the mythological drama.
Ahead of the release of any details about Nitesh Tiwari’s directorial, his film has garnered immense attention from the public. Recently, Amrit Sagar, the grandson of Ramanand Sagar, who had directed and produced yesteryear’s immensely popular television series, Ramayan, shared his thoughts on Ranbir Kapoor and Sai Pallavi starrer film. He spoke to the Indian Express and shared that everyone should remake Ramayan but with utmost honesty. In his words:

“I feel that Ramayan should be made by everybody, why not? Nobody has a copyright on Ramayan. My only thing with that is, do it honestly. Don’t try to make Ramayan through the perspective of this person or that person. Ramayan is not about that. It is the story of Ram, that is why it is titled Ramayan.”

Prior to Nitesh Tiwari, Om Raut told the story of Ramayan through his film, Adipurush, which starred Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, and Saif Ali Khan in lead roles. The film flopped at the box office. In a recent conversation, Ramanand Sagar’s grandson shared his thoughts on retelling the story of a mythological epic and said that people shouldn’t try to change the essence of the ‘granth’.
Amrit Sagar said that Ramayan had been a part of people’s lives for aeons, and a major segment of Indians read the text every day. He further added that changing something that has existed for centuries now is sacrilege. Emphasising it’s wrong to hurt the sentiments of people, Amrit said:
“Because it’s not a story, it is a part of people’s life. We live in cities and metros, we actually forget that there is a big segment of India that reads that text every day. They know the text verbatim. So for us to try and change something that has been written eons ago and has been accepted as a granth… It’s like trying to change the Bible. It’s sacrilege. You don’t do that kind of stuff. Follow the text according to how it’s been written and then try and do your honest work in that given space. You can’t hurt the sentiments of so many people, that’s wrong.”
