'I Was Living Off Of Her Income': Ram Kapoor On Wife Gautami's Support Through His Struggling Days

Veteran actor, Ram Kapoor is one of the highest-paid actors on Indian television with a notable presence in cinema. Ram Kapoor reveals Gautami took the reins of the household during the first year of their marriage

Ram and Gautami have been married since 2003, and during the course of their journey together, they endured numerous pitfalls that really tested their love and support for one another. Recently, in a candid conversation with Cyrus Broacha on his YouTube channel, the actor revealed that during the first year of their marriage, he lived off Gautami’s income, as he had no work at the time. Talking about his financial struggles back in the day, Ram shared:

“I've been an actor for 25 years now, and for the first I would say ten to twelve years, I had major ups and downs, where there were periods of no work periods of very little money. In fact when I got married, for the first year of my marriage, I was living off of Gautami’s income because she was working, I had no work… I don't mind even saying it!”

Talking about his hustle in the industry, Ram Kapoor shared how he had to struggle for the first ten to twelve years before landing his breakthrough role. The actor also highlighted how unpredictable an acting career can be, with uncertain gaps between projects. Despite his initial struggles, he rose to fame with Kasamh Se, which changed the course of his career. Ram remarked:

“I did well, my serials did well. But the thing with acting is, after your job is over, for the next job, you don't know how long it takes, sometimes one year, six months, even longer. So you have your ups and downs… I became a really big name after Kasam Se… after that, I kind of never looked back.”

Ram and Gautami met on the sets of Ghar Ek Mandir, where their on-screen chemistry turned into a real-life romance. Despite their contrasting personalities—Ram being outgoing and Gautami more reserved — the two fell deeply in love. Ram proposed to her at a party, and she instantly said yes. They tied the knot on Valentine’s Day, 2003, and are now proud parents to two children, Sia and Aks.
