Suchitra Krishnamoorthi, who is the ex-wife of filmmaker, Shekhar Kapur, once joked that she wanted to marry the director, Ram Gopal Varma. However, Ram Gopal Varma got serious, and he immediately called her to his office and tried his best to dissuade her.
In an autobiography, Drama Queen, Suchitra recalled a joke she once played on Ram Gopal Varma. She shared that she told him she wanted to marry the director. He got extremely scared and invited her to his office to stop her plans of marrying him. It all started after Suchitra sent a text to RGV writing, "Will you marry me?"
In her book, Suchitra mentioned that it was a joke, but a scared Ram Gopal Varma rejected it by stating that he only uses women for 'sex'. Not only that, RGV told Suchitra that he likes women for their bodies and not their brains. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Suchitra revealed:
"It happened, but it happened as a joke… How can anybody be serious about marrying Ram Gopal Varma? He’s a very nice man, but he got so scared by my message. That is even funnier."
Suchitra revealed that he was scared and explained to her that she was a nice girl but he was a horrible guy. She said:
"He took me very seriously, he got so scared. He called me to his office and explained what a nice girl I was, and how he’s a very horrible guy and I shouldn’t think about all this… I said, ‘Ramu, it was just a joke.’ Even he took it seriously."
Suchita and Ram Gopal Verma had worked together on several films like My Wife's Murder and Rann. She was married to the director, Shekhar Kapur, from 1999 to 2007. However, their relationship ended on a strained note, and she called Shekhar Kapur 'unfaithful'. According to reports, Suchitra wrote a poem on a 'maneater' who ate her husband. Later, in several interviews, she agreed that she was referring to Preity Zinta.

"I didn’t have to take it. It’s a free world and she can say what she likes. I am very proud to be a homemaker. I was a full-time mom for 20 years and I am very proud of it."
