Rajiv Thakur is a popular actor and comedian, who stood out for his powerful comic timings on The Kapil Sharma Show. Recently, during a candid interview, the comedian opened up the Dhoom actor, Uday Chopra, who is the son of the legendary Yash Chopra. During the interview, Rajiv took an indirect dig at the actor. Read on to know what the comedian said about Uday Chopra.
Recently, the popular comedian, Rajiv Thakur sat down for a candid conversation with Hindi Rush, during which he opened up about his audition days. He shared that he has carved his own path. Recalling the audition days for Laughter Challenge, he shared that he was the one who filled Chandan Prabhakar’s form. He was quoted as saying:
"I have always charted my own path in life, even back in Amritsar. When the auditions for Laughter Challenge opened up, I was the one who filled in Chandan (Prabhakar’s) application. He didn’t want to do it, but I insisted that all us friends would do it together. Even today, if I get the chance to put the spotlight on one of my friends, I take it. But only those whose talent I believe in."
Later, in the same interview, he continued to talk about his appearance on The Great Indian Kapil Show. Talking about the same, he revealed that Kapil Sharma can help him once or twice, but at the end of the day, it is the channel who needs to see his talent. What grabbed the attention of the viewers was when Rajiv compared this situation with Uday Chopra and mentioned that even though Uday has all the resources, his career didn’t work out. In his words:
"Kapil can take me along once or twice, but if the channel doesn’t want me, then that’s that. It took me eight years just to become a permanent member of his cast. Nobody on this planet can do something for an untalented person. Look at Uday Chopra, for example. What did Yash Chopra not have? He had money, the resources, the studio, the directors… But Uday bhai’s career as an actor wasn’t meant to happen. It’s not that he didn’t have the talent, but he had a talent for something else."
In the same interview with Hindi Rush, Rajiv Thakur continued to talk about Uday Chopra and his career. He mentioned that Uday is the son of the biggest filmmaker, Yash Chopra, but still YRF couldn’t make him a star. Later, he explained his comparison, by saying that everything is decided by the audience. He said:
"People often overlook that not everyone from a privileged background becomes successful. Take my own family, for example. My brother, Uday, is an actor, but he hasn’t had a very successful career. He’s the son of one of the biggest filmmakers and the brother of another. Even with YRF, a company known for launching numerous newcomers, we couldn’t turn him into a star. Why? Because the ultimate decision lies with the audience—they choose whom they like and whom they want to see. No one else can make that decision for them."
Uday Chopra became a public figure with films like Dhoom and Pyaar Impossible. In 2011, took the role of CEO at YRF Entertainment. Under his leadership, YRF financed films like Grace of Monaco, The Longest Week and more.
