Rajat Bedi has been hogging the limelight due to his comeback in Aryan Khan's directorial debut, The Ba***ds of Bollywood. For the unversed, Narendra Bedi was a producer and director whose son, Rajat, was featured in the latest series directed by Aryan Khan. Now, Rajat shared how his late father turned broke, and went into alcoholism. For the unversed, Narendra made movies such as Beenam and Adalat, which starred Amitabh, as well as many films, including Jawani Deewani and Sanam Teri Kasam, to name a few.
Rajat Bedi has been hogging the light because of his role in The Ba***ds of Bollywood. The actor shared about his dad's relationship with Rajesh Khanna and how his rivalry with legendary star, Amitabh Bachchan caused Rajat's dad, Narendra, a lot of loss. During a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rajat remembered his dad's final moments and the struggles he underwent. The actor shared how his dad had turned into an alcoholic, went into depression and shared:
"He died in front of my eyes. I came from school and he came out of the room and collapsed in front of me. He had become an alcoholic, he got into depression. He was doing very well but my grandfather had some liabilities of films and my father was taking care of that.”
Rajat also noted that Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan's rivalry with each other caused his father a huge loss. Rajesh shared that his late father had 2-3 movies with Rajesh Khanna, and Kaka felt bad that his dad was engaging with Amitabh Bachchan and also working on other projects with the star. Rajat revealed:
"I don’t know the real story, but my father had taken the unit to Pune for one or two films, and he was waiting for Rajesh Khanna to come. For 10 to 15 days, Rajesh Khanna didn’t come and my father just closed the projects. I guess heroes at that time were problematic or something."
Rajat, going ahead in the interview, shared that his papa and Rajesh Khanna used to drink the entire night. He also shared that in his house, there used to be crates of alcohol, and his father used to smoke, have Pan Parag, and the lifestyle he led was utterly terrible. Rajat shared how Rajesh used to leave his dad, like around 5-6 in the morning, and all night they would drink. The actor shared:
"Clearly, alcoholism also affected his father's career. It became so bad that when he would go for shoots… like during the shooting of Sanam Teri Kasam, he would be drinking from morning, and Kamal Haasan ji would get very upset with that because he would come on set smelling of alcohol. He was going through his journey of pain through all those circumstances.”
For those who do not know back in the 1960 and 1970s Amitabh and Rajesh Khanna were staunch rivals. Rajesh had become a big star in the late 1960s and early 1970s. However, soon after Amitabh's Zanjeer was released in 1973, Rajesh Khanna's stardom was challenged.
