Raima Sen Recreates Her Grandmother, Suchitra Sen's Iconic Looks, Duo Shares Uncanny Resemblance

Suchitra Sen was one of the iconic actresses in the Bengali film industry. Her powerful acting skills and impeccable beauty are still etched in the hearts of her millions of fans. Moreover, despite leaving the mortal planes in January 2014, the actress continues to live on through her daughter, Moon Moon Sen and granddaughters, Raima Sen and Riya Sen. In addition, it is Suchitra's charisma that has always enchanted her actress granddaughter, Raima. Proof of the same is once again found as she recreated her grandmother's iconic looks.

Raima Sen pays a photogenic tribute to her grandmother, Suchitra Sen

Recently, Raima Sen took to her IG handle and shared an array of pictures as she recreated two of the iconic looks of her grandmother, Suchitra Sen. In a few pictures, Raima revived Suchitra's bridal look from the 1955 film, Devdas, directed by Bimal Roy. The film also starred veteran actor, Dilip Kumar. The grandmother-granddaughter duo was seen wearing silk sarees paired with glass-sleeved blouses adorned with laces near the hemline. Both Raima and Suchitra teamed their looks with traditional gold jewellery, including gogo necklaces, jhumkas, a sleek maang teeka and bangles. A middle-parted messy bun hairdo, subtle makeup, Chandan designs on the forehead, and a red bindi complete their looks.

Raima Sen opened up on how being Suchitra Sen’s granddaughter did not save her from struggles

Despite being the granddaughter of legendary star, Suchrita Sen and daughter of another popular actress, Moon Moon Sen, Raima has carved a niche for herself. Besides working in many Bengali movies, she has also appeared in Hindi movies, including Parineeta, Chokher Bali, and Dus, among others. However, as the ever-lasting debate on nepotism in the film industry never seems to take a back seat, Raima once addressed the same in an interview with Zoom Digital. She mentioned how the identity of being the third-generation actress in her family has never been able to save her from battling her own share of struggles. Opening more on the constant pressure to perform well, Raima shared:

“They think you are Suchitra Sen's granddaughter, acting must be in her blood. It is not like that. I never had any formal training. Of course, first breaks are easy and many people do not make it after their first movie. It depends on your luck and your stars. The first break will be easy for any star kid. After that, it is the difficulty and you have to sustain and carve a niche for yourself. There is a lot of competition, which is cutthroat. There is more pressure and expectation on a star kid to perform than on a newcomer."

Raima Sen once spoke about her mother and grandmother’s influence on her acting

In another interview with Hindu, Raima once spoke about the influences of her mom and grandmother’s acting on her career. She also revealed the perks and limitations of her identity because of her family members involved in the acting business. She added:

“I've always subconsciously wanted to get into acting. Because I saw my mother. I used to go with her. I have done some work with my mother and grandmother as a child artiste. Initially, when I entered films, there was too much of expectation and pressure because I was Suchitra Sen's granddaughter, Moon Moon Sen’s daughter. Will I be able to live up to the reputation of my grandmother was the question. Till Chokher Bali, I felt I was under the scanner. Only after that, I became Raima Sen. In Bengal, they feel I look like my grandmother. So, in my photoshoots and also in my films, they try and do my eye make-up accordingly, so I resemble her. They even approached me to do the biopic of my grandmother. In Bengal, the comparison will always be there. But it’s become kind of a blessing now. I am happy to be compared to my grandmother."
