They say when you enter old age, your behaviour resembles that of a young kid. Your behaviour, attitude, nature and everything becomes similar to a child. Grandchildren are very fond of their grandparents, from listening to midnight stories to going for an evening stroll, their bond is the purest. Elders start to resemble themselves with their grandchildren and are the happiest around them. Irrespective of their designation, grandparents will always be like a kid in front of their grandchildren. When after the death of chacha Nehru, his daughter, Indira Gandhi had become the Prime Minister of India, she had received various hindrances on her path. However, she stood like a rock and faced everything like a pro with the support of her family. Indira ji shared a lovely relationship with her grandchildren, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi. Rahul was barely 14 and Priyanka 12 when they had lost their grandmother.
Indira Gandhi was shot dead by her own bodyguards on October 31, 1984, and today to mark 35 years of her unfortunate death, her grandchildren, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to their social media handles and remembered her. Rahul took to Twitter and sharing a picture of Indira ji, wrote, “My tributes to my grandmother & former PM, Smt Indira Gandhi Ji on the anniversary of her martyrdom.” On the other hand, Priyanka took to her Twitter handle and shared a shloka which her grandmother used to recite for her and her brother, Rahul. Along with the shloka, she posted her childhood picture with her grandma, Indira.

Recently, we stumbled upon a News18 report, which talked about the last minute whereabouts of Indira Gandhi before her assassination. As per the report, Indira Gandhi, on the morning of October 31, 1984, had given goodbye kisses to her grandchildren, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi before they left for school. The report further revealed, “Priyanka noticed that her grandmother held her longer than usual. Indira then moved to Rahul who was barely 14. The grandmother used to talk to them about subjects that she often avoided discussing with son Rajiv or daughter-in-law Sonia.” (Suggested Read: Shilpa Shetty Kundra Enjoys Her Pool Time In A Bikini, Raj Kundra's Comment Is 'Too Hot To Handle')

Indira Gandhi loved to spend time with her grandchildren and as per a leading portal report, she was a doting grandmother. The report had further revealed that after the much-talked-about 'Operation Blue Star', when Indira ji had feared for her life, she and her granddaughter, Priyanka had spent an evening together and had watched Jane Austen’s, Pride and Prejudice on TV. On November 19, 2017, to mark Indira ji’s 100 birthday, Rahul had taken to his Instagram handle and had shared a heartfelt wish, which could be read as “I remember you, Dadi, with so much love and happiness. You are my mentor and guide. You give me strength #Indira100.”
Indira Gandhi was an open-minded lady and had even happily accepted an inter-caste marriage for her son, Rajiv Gandhi. While studying in college, Rajiv had written a letter to his mother and had confessed his love for Sonia Gandhi. When Indira ji had received the letter, she had discussed it with her aunt, Vijayalaxmi Pandit and had then decided to meet her then future daughter-in-law.
Indira Gandhi had flown to London in 1965 for the Nehru exhibition and it was there that Rajiv had introduced Sonia to his mother. At that time, the young couple had made up their mind to marry each other. Being an open-minded leader, Indira did not come in the way of their courtship but had suggested that Sonia should first visit India before making the final call. Indira had realised that Rajiv and Sonia were serious about each other. So, she had decided to get them married early, to avoid unnecessary gossip. She had taken a keen interest in the ceremonies and everything was organised under her guidance.
