Remember the sharp-natured ‘Shaleen’ from the iconic 2008 film, Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na? The character was brilliantly brought to life by none other than Sugandha. She is still associated by many as the former wife of Raghu Ram, the face of MTV Roadies, Sugandha has carved her own path beyond the limelight.

A glimpse into Sugandha Garg’s acting career

Sugandha was born on May 13, 1982, in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. After completing her school education, she pursued a career in filmmaking. She graduated from Maitreyi College, Delhi University in filmmaking and entered the industry. In the early days of her film career, Sugandha dabbled in television as a host and presenter for different shows before making her Bollywood debut in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na. Her portrayal of the bubbly and sharp-natured ‘Shaleen’ deeply resonated with the audience for its effortless charm.

Sugandha’s career took a hike from there, with back-to-back roles in films like Let’s Dance, Mumbai Calling, My Name Is Khan, Tere Bin Laden, Patang and Jugni. Despite having a promising career in acting, the Indie star opted against capitalising on her Bollywood presence with commercial films and stuck to scripts which resonated with her.

In her personal life, Sugandha had found her forever in Raghu Ram, who eventually rose to fame as the muhfat judge of the super-successful MTV reality show, Roadies, where he was later on joined by his twin, Rajiv Laxman. The duo started their journey as friends and eventually fell in love.

Sugandha and Raghu got hitched back in 2006, and after spending 12 years of marital life, they amicably decided to part ways in 2018. The divorce, which Raghu likes to call ‘uncoupling’, was a unique one. Even through their separation, the duo managed to set divorce goals for their fans.

On January 29, 2018, Raghu Ram announced the news of his divorce from Sugandha in an IG post. Taking to his Instagram handle, the former Roadies judge shared a photo collage of him and Sugandha, one from their wedding day, and the other of them looking at each other and sharing a smile. Tagging Sugandha in the post, Raghu penned a heartfelt note that read:

After her separation from Raghu Ram, Sugandha has remained unmarried. She focused on her career in acting, along with her music, writing and filmmaking. She has been appearing in the show, Guilty Minds, since 2022. She reportedly has a lineup of projects on the big and small screens, even though they are under wraps.
