Actor, R Madhavan, who is known for his charm and has given strong performances in films Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Tanu Weds Manu, 3 Idiots, Rocketry and Aap Jaisa Koi, recently spoke about his personal life. In a candid and honest conversation with GQ India, the actor opened up about his son, Vedaant's disciplined routine, parenting way and the bond these two share.
During the candid interview, R Madhavan very proudly shared the details about his son’s routine. His son, Vedaant is a professional swimmer and has an extraordinary level of discipline in his daily routine. The actor shared that Vedaant’s day begins at 4 in the morning and ends at 8 at night. In his words:
"As a professional swimmer, Vedaant’s day ends at eight o’clock, and then he’s up again at four in the morning. It’s the most demanding part of the job, not just for him, but also for his parents. That hour is called brahma muhurta, said to be the most spiritually conducive time to wake up."
The actor also shared his wish to be as disciplined as his son. R Madhavan mentioned that his son has such a disciplined life that he doesn’t even sit and eat food. Eating food also is not less than an exercise for him because he needs to focus on chewing and on meal balance. During the candid conversation, the 3 Idiots actor expressed his wish to follow that lifestyle but ended up calling him lazy.
R Madhavan also spoke about the importance of good and right parenting. He said that it is important to treat children as thinking individuals from a young age. He believes that parents should understand and respect their opinions as well so that they feel comfortable in coming to talk to parents. He mentioned that in a world of social media, where everybody is hyper-aware, parents should avoid forcing their opinions on their children. Sharing instance from his life, he said:
"Since Vedaant was five, I’ve spoken to him like I’m speaking to you, and have taken his opinions seriously. All you can do is share your experience and ensure their environment is safe. Most importantly, home must be a space where they can be their authentic selves, free of judgment."
While sharing about parenting, in the same interview R Madhavan also shared that he hopes to always stay involved in Vedaant's life as an important figure and someday also become a loving grandfather. He admitted that he has, or he might not be available for Vedaant at all times but whenever Vedaant would need him, the actor will always be present. He said:

"I want to be an integral part in my son’s life, the kind where my future grandkids call me thatha and visit often. I want him to someday ask me, Dad, how did you raise me? Of course, I can’t be there for every event, but he knows I’ll always show up when it matters. We don’t talk every day or say I love you all the time, but when he needs a solution or to talk through anything, I’m the one he calls."
Vedaant Madhavan was born on August 21, 2005 and is the son of actor, R Madhavan and Sarita Birje. Vedaant is a professional swimmer, who specialised in freestyle and trains with Virginia Tech Hokies. He has already won five gold medals at the Malaysian Open, a gold and silver at the Danish Open and bronze medals at the Latvian and Thailand Opens.
