R Madhavan Clears Air About Flirtatious IG Chats Controversy, 'Maddie Is Talking To Young Girls'

R Madhavan, aka Maddy, is a beloved actor with a massive fan following. He was once the poster boy for romantic movies, and everyone was enamoured by his on-screen persona, ‘Maddy’, in the 2001 film, Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein. However, he recently got mired in a controversy, when some fans alleged that he was flirtatiously chatting with young girls on Instagram. He has now cleared the air about the same.

R Madhavan addresses his Instagram chat controversy

Maddy recently spoke at an app launch event in Chennai and addressed rumours suggesting that he frequently chats with young girls on Instagram. Madhavan recalled a young fan messaging him on Instagram, praising his performance in a film and showering him with compliments. He said:

“I am an actor. I have all these people messaging me on Instagram and social media. I’ll tell you a simple example. A young girl messages me. ‘I saw this movie. I really loved it. I thought you’re a fabulous actor. Well done. You motivate me.’ And at the end of it, she puts lots of hearts and kisses and love symbols.”

The fan’s message ended with several heart and kiss emojis. As a polite acknowledgement, Madhavan responded with a simple thank-you message. Madhavan expressed frustration over how simple, kind responses to fans are often misinterpreted, leading to unnecessary speculation. Addressing the same, he said:

“When there’s a fan who is talking to me in such detail, I am compelled to answer. So I always say ‘Thank you so much. Very kind of you. God bless you.’ This is my reply to her. What she does is, she takes a screenshot of my reply to her and makes it a post on Instagram. Now, what do people see? Hearts and kisses and love things. And Maddy is replying to that.”

R Madhavan expresses frustration over misinterpreting things on social media out of context

Madhavan expressed concern over how easily things can be taken out of context on social media. While his intent was only to acknowledge the main message, people took no time to assume some other intention because of the emojis. He further elaborated on the challenges of navigating social media as a public figure and said:

“Because it’s a small thing, you only see that symbol and say, ‘Oh, Maddie is talking to young girls’. If that is the fear I have... If I have to pussyfoot around every time I am putting a message on social media, can you imagine that somebody without my experience, how much trouble they’re going to get into?”

Over the years, the industry witnessed R Madavan’s versatility as an actor after his stellar work in films and series, such as Shaitaan, Breathe, and The Railway Men. Regarding his professional commitments, he will soon be seen in G.D.N, a biopic based on scientist, G.D. Naidu, where he plays the titular role. The actor is also working on the Netflix drama, Aap Jaisa Koi, alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh, and a psychological thriller with Vijay and Kangana Ranaut.
