Priyanka Chopra is one of the most talented actresses who established her foothold in both Bollywood and Hollywood. However, she also fell prey to nepotism. Yes, you read it right. She stepped into the acting world in the 2002 with the Tamil film, Thamizhan. Next year, in 2003, she made her Bollywood debut in The Hero: Love Story of a Spy. In a recent interview, Priyanka recalled a difficult time in the Hindi film industry when favouritism cost her a project.
Recently, during a session at Harvard Business School, Priyanka recalled a moment when her male co-star visited her on the sets of Salaam-E-Ishq in 2007. While she expected the meetup to be a courtesy visit ahead of the shoot, it turned out to be gloomy for her. PeeCee recounted that back then, she was 22 years old and the project was a great deal to her. Priyanka shared that her co-star mentioned that she had been removed from the project. Hearing this, she felt sad and was in utter disbelief. She was quoted as saying:
"He goes, ‘The director gave you this movie by mistake. It was his mistake. This was always supposed to go to this other girl but we will do another one together, don’t worry about it. I just wanted to tell you myself.’ And he ate some food and left. At just 22, the film meant a great deal to her. “My heart just crushed and I was like, ‘I signed a contract. Like, what do you mean?’ But that’s how it was."

During the same session, PeeCee opened up about nepotism in the industry. She herself has faced it earlier in her career. Priyanka shared that back in 2003, when she had just started her acting career, she didn’t know what nepotism meant. However, she saw how favouritism cost her to lose position in a film. In fact, at the time, she was rethinking her career. But she chose to give more time to acting and do her best. She was quoted as saying:
"I didn’t know what nepotism meant at the time. I just knew that every parent wants to give their children the best future they can. I was cast as a lead and suddenly, I was cast as a second lead because somebody else… The politics of it just struck me and I realised that no one is making a movie for me. This person is not my uncle or I haven’t been to their home since I was 4 years old. I was rethinking my career at that point. That took me through my career and got me more work."

Over the years, Priyanka has won millions of hearts with her strong screen presence. She gave multiple Bollywood hits, including Barfi, Krrish 3, Bajirao Mastani, Don 2, Agneepath and more. She also appeared in many Hollywood films, including Baywatch and The White Tiger. However, her journey in Hollywood was also not smooth. Speaking about the struggles, during the annual Harvard India Conference, Priyanka said:
"I was dealing with a lot when it comes to my work back in India, and I was trying to survive, and I think my goal was, I wanted another magazine, and that’s the only way I could wake up every morning and go through the small role that I have to do. And wait for like 15 hours and not be shot that day. Those are things I hadn’t experienced in my career back home. And I was okay to do it every morning because I was like, I’m going for that long term. I’m going for that legacy."
