Priyanka Chopra shifted her base to the West after making a name for herself in the Indian entertainment industry. The former Miss World has done some notable works in Hollywood, including Citadel, Quantico, Baywatch, Love Again and more. In a recent interview, the Indian diva talked about how she was unaware of pay parity in the West.

While conversing with India Today, PeeCee recalled being surprised when her US agency told her to ask for the same amount as her male counterparts. The actress, who has recently produced the documentary WOMB (Woman of My Billion), said that she was unaware that she actually has the power to demand the same fees. In her words:

“When my agents told me that we were going to ask for pay parity, even I was surprised. I was like, ‘What? No, that doesn’t happen in our industry.’ And they were like, ‘Let’s just ask the question.’ So, I didn’t even know that I had that power. I did not know I could aspire for more, because I was desensitised. I was told this is normal.”

Priyanka Chopra shares that women should be given the right to choose for themselves

Priyanka, who has been known for being vocal about feminism and women's empowerment, further highlighted that women must be given the right to choose on their own, instead of dictating what they should or should not do. Sharing that most women don’t even know that they, too, can have a voice in their lives, PeeCee added:

“I think we talk a lot about choice, and giving women agency in their lives is such a powerful thing. I think so many women around the world don't even know they have a choice in their lives because so many choices are made for them.”

Priyanka Chopra mentions that she wants to be her daughter, Malti Marie’s safe space

In another interview with India Today, the global star opened up about the subject of her recently released documentary, WOMB, and said that she wants her daughter, Malti Marie to feel safe with her. The film features the real-life story of a women’s rights advocate and activist, Srishti Bakshi. During her journey, she covered 3,800 kilometres on foot from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, met women across all age groups, and documented their lives.

Priyanka does not just preach equality, she also sternly believes in it. During the conversation, Priyanka talked about her idea of being a parent and recalled how her parents raised her. The actress also added that she wants to be her daughter’s safe space just like how her parents were to her. In her words:

“I think children are not born to us, they are born through us to have their own lives. And that's how my parents raised me and my mom raised me. And, you know, she always said that I'm your safe space. That's what I want to be for Malti, her safe space and let her do whatever she wants.”
