Priyamani is one of the leading actresses of the South Indian film industry. She has predominantly worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. She also features in Hindi and Kannada films. In 2010, she made her Bollywood debut with Mani Ratnam’s Raavan. She is widely known for her role as 'Suchitra Tiwari' in the series, The Family Man. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone is one of the most popular actresses in the Bollywood industry. Recently, she garnered a lot of limelight due to her demand for an 8-hour shift. Now, Priyamani commented on the same.
In a recent interview with CNN-News18 Showsha, Priyamani commented on the most talked-about topic of 2025, that is, her co-star, Deepika Padukone’s demand for an 8-hour shift. For the unversed, Priyamani shared screen space with Deepika in the film, Chennai Express. She featured in the song 1234 Get on The Dance Floor from the film Chennai Express, starring Deepika and Shah Rukh Khan. Sharing her take on Deepika’s demand, Priyamani said:
"It is completely subjective. There are times when you will have to adjust, which is okay, and you should make room for it."
In a recent conversation with CNBC-TV18, the Bajirao Mastani actress broke her silence after her 8-hour shift demand had created a lot of stir inside and outside of the industry. Deepika shared that because she is a woman demanding an 8-hour shift, she is being labelled as pushy, while male actors who have been doing this for ages have never made headlines. She also highlighted that besides the 8-hour shift, the male actors also enjoy breaks during the weekends. In her words:
"By virtue of being a woman, if that's coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry have been working for eight hours for years, and it's never made headlines. I don't want to take names now and make this into a whole thing. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends."
In the same interview with CNBC-TV18, Deepika shared that she knows a few women, especially new moms, who have started working an eight-hour shift. She mentioned that those women never made headlines. She later mentioned that she doesn’t know why she made headlines for her demand, while others did the same thing. In her words:
"I also know a lot of women now and newly turned mothers who have also started working eight hours. But that also surprisingly didn’t make headlines. So I’m not sure about this myself."
Deepika Padukone has established herself as an actress through her strong screen presence. In her personal life, she is married to Ranveer Singh. The duo tied the knot on November 14, 2018. After 5 years of marital bliss, the power couple welcomed their little munchkin, a daughter named Dua. Coming to her professional front, Deepika has departed from Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Spirit and Nag Ashwin's Kalki 2. She will be next seen in Shah Rukh Khan starrer, King and has Atlee's film, AA22xA6, in the pipeline. In AA22xA6, Deepika will be seen opposite Telugu star, Allu Arjun.
