Priyadarshan Refutes Paresh Rawal's Claims On 'Hera Pheri 3' Copyright, 'I Have Seen Paperwork..'

The controversy around Hera Pheri 3, one of the most anticipated sequels in Bollywood has drawn the attention of fans over it. Unlike the wait on developments, new updates related to its controversy have made headlines. After Paresh Rawal's exit, both producer, Akshay and Paresh's legal team kept their perspectives about the matter forward. Amid other reasons, Paresh's lawyers mentioned that he got notice over the film's copyright, and he decided to take a step back because he didn't want to be a part of conflicts. Now, Priyadarshan has opened up about the same.

Priyadarshan dismisses doubts over Hera Pheri 3's copyright 

When Paresh Rawal's lawyers opened up about the reason for his exit, they revealed that the actor didn't get the story, screenplay and detailed contract for Hera Pheri 3. At the same time, they claimed that the actor got a notice related to the copyright issue of the film. Recently, Mid-day questioned the same to Hera Pheri and Hera Pheri 3 director, Priyadarshan. The filmmaker, who is presently in Hyderabad working on another film, cleared the air around it. 

Priyadarshan countered the claims made by Paresh Rawal and mentioned that Akshay Kumar's production house, Cape Of Good Films, had legally acquired the full rights to the Hera Pheri for Rs. 10 crore. He also revealed that he had seen the papers on Intellectual Property Rights of the film which were accurate. In his words:

 "Akshay bought the entire rights of the Hera Pheri franchise for R10 crore from Firoz Nadiadwala, who had produced the first two [parts]. This is not just for Hera Pheri 3 but the entire franchise. I know this as I have seen the paperwork for it."

What did Paresh Rawal's lawyers claim about copyright issue?

Previously, when Akshay Kumar's Production house filed a Rs. 25 crore lawsuit against him, they memtioned that Paresh took a part payment of Rs. 11 lakh and shot for promo and a little part from the film. So, his abrupt exit caused losses on investments. In turn, the Oh My God actor returned the singing amount with interest, and his lawyers told IANS that he didn't get the story, screenplay and also a draft of a long-form agreement. Further, they opened up about the copyright issue and said:

"In the absence of these and also since Mr Nadiadwala, the producer of the original films, issued notice to our client and raised issues on the making of the film, our client chose to exit and returned the money with interest by terminating the Term sheet".

Akshay Kumar broke his silence on Paresh Rawal's exit and legal feud 

Akshay Kumar recently attended the trailer launch of his upcoming film, Housefull 5, in Mumbai. During the event, a reporter asked him about his views on netizens calling out Paresh Rawal for exiting the Hera Pheri 3 franchise despite it being one of his most memorable roles. In turn, Akshay not only addressed the question but also talked about the conflict and stated:

"Firstly, I'd like to tell you that using such kind of word for my co-star, foolish, is something I.'d not appreciate. That's not right. I have been working with him for the last 32 years. We are very good friends. He's a great actor. I really admire him. I don't think this is a place where I am going to talk about it because... it's a very serious matter. It is a matter which is going to be handled by the courts. Hence, I don't think I am going to speak about it here."
