The Malayalam film industry has been in a state of shock and grief ever since it learned of veteran actor, Sreenivasan's passing. The actor, producer, and screenwriter was behind several hit films like Nadodikkattu, Sandesam, Gandhinagar 2nd Street, Varavelpu, Thalayana Manthram, and Njan Prakashan, among others.
Sreenivasan passed away after struggling with his health at the age of 69, on December 20, 2025. His last rites were performed on the very next day, on December 21, 2025, in Kochi, in his Kandanand residence. While many of the actor's fans and colleagues came to offer their respects, including Prithviraj Sukumaran and his wife, Supriya Menon, it was Supriya who expressed distress at people taking selfies during the funeral.
It's only been two days since beloved Malayalam actor, Sreenivasan passed away after a period of illness. His funeral was arranged by his family in his Kandanand home on December 21, 2025. Apart from his fans, a lot of his industry friends came to mourn his loss. Among the list of celebs were Parvathy Thiruvothu, Renji Panicker, Sathyan Anthikkad, Jagadish, and Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Funerals are always sad and emotional affairs, but sadly, that wasn't the case this time around, as many people, rather than paying their respects to the late Sreenivasan, started taking selfies and videos. This obviously made his family tense and uncomfortable. After the funeral was over, Supriya Menon, who is Prithviraj Sukumaran's wife, took to her Instagram Stories to express her distress over such obviously inappropriate behaviour. Claiming that the grieving family did not get any space to mourn Sreenivasan's loss, she wrote:
“Grief is such a personal emotion. To see a grieving family not have any space to mourn their beloved is so tragic. Multitudes of cameras/mobile phones everywhere. Selfie takers in the corners, people pointing to the actors walking in. Many of whom are mourning their beloved colleague.”
Supriya Menon penned a long note, urging people to reflect on the kind of behaviour they showed at a funeral. In the note, she claimed that she cannot imagine the kind of pain Sreenivasan's surviving family is feeling, while stating how every moment in life has become a kind of spectacle for people these days. Questioning the people, she asked whether the dead don't deserve better than this. To quote her own words:
“Don’t the dead & the living they leave behind deserve better? What a spectacle every moment of life has become…Cannot imagine the pain of the family who are in the midst of this tragedy. Shouldn’t we self reflect & course correct? How much coverage is too much? Do we need to crowd around the last rites beaming it for everyone to see…a broken down family, trying to say goodbye to their Beloved."

For those unaware, Sreenivasan has left behind his widowed wife, Vimala, who is a school teacher by profession. The duo got married in 1984 and were blessed with two sons. His sons were clearly inspired by him when choosing their own career paths. Sreenivasan's elder son, Vineeth Sreenivasan, is an actor, director, producer, and singer. His younger son, named Dhyan Sreenivasan, is also an actor, director, and producer.
