Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan has been one of the most loved and popular on-screen renditions of the renowned epic of the same name. While the show has gone off the air long time back, it is still hailed by the audiences, who can easily rewatch it any time. The show saw many talented actors, such as Dipika Chikhlia, Dara Singh, and Arun Govil, gain massive success. And now, Prem Sagar opened up on some unheard anecdotes about one of the actors from the show.
In an interview with Lehren, Prem Sagar, son of legendary filmmaker, Ramanand Sagar revealed some anecdotes from the shooting of the iconic television series created by his father, Ramayan. He talked about the eminent actor, Dara Singh, who played the role of ‘Hanuman’ in the show and narrated how the actor needed a special stool to sit on. Elaborating more, Prem shared that once the actor wore the costume, he couldn’t sit properly with the tail prop attached to him and thus needed the special stool. Moreover, with the heavy makeup of ‘Hanuman’, he couldn’t eat and used to stay hungry for a long time. In his words:
“His make up would take almost three to four hours. There were no prosthetics that time and we had to match the look with Hanumanji. And then his tail. If he is wearing the tail, then where will he sit? There was a special stool for him, which had a cut, so that he could sit with his tail on. And once the mold was on his face, how would he eat his food? And the makeup would be done three hours prior to the shoot. So for almost eight to nine hours the man could not eat anything. That was dedication.”
